He still doesn’t impress her much.
Shania Twain said she forgives her ex-husband, Robert John “Mutt” Lange — even though he cheated on her with her former best friend Marie-Anne Thiébaud.
“Forgiveness is in the family of letting go. But forgiveness, more specifically for me anyway, is not about forgetting necessarily,” the “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” singer, 58, said in Tuesday’s episode of the “Great Company with Jamie Laing” podcast.

“It’s about understanding the other person, and that might mean that they’re wrong,” she added.
While Twain suggested she will always view Lange’s infidelity as wrong, she insisted she can “totally forgive” him because she knows the music producer, 75, was going through hardships at the time.
“I understand that he wasn’t well, that you don’t act certain ways unless there’s something wrong with you,” she said.
“I feel bad that he had those problems,” she continued.
The country music star said hating someone and holding on to resentment is “very hard” for her.
“He’s a human being that deserves empathy and understanding,” she explained. “I think we all do.”
Twain added, “So, do I hate my ex-husband for making a mistake? No. It’s his mistake. Not my mistake. So sad for him that he made such a great mistake that he has to live with. And I don’t know what that is, but it’s not. That’s not my weight.”
She and Lange married in 1993 and welcomed their son, Eja, now 22, in 2001.
The former couple split in 2008 after he cheated on her with Thiébaud. They finalized their divorce in 2010.
In a headline-making twist of events, Twain ended up getting engaged to Thiébaud’s ex-husband, Frédéric Thiébaud, later that year.
The “You’re Still the One” songstress and the former Nestlé executive tied the knot in 2011 in Puerto Rico.
Meanwhile, Twain revealed in a 2023 episode of the “Armchair Expert” podcast that Lange and Marie-Anne were still together and going strong.
The Grammy-winning performer also clarified that she only keeps in touch with her former spouse for co-parenting purposes.
“Mutt and I parent well together — for people who don’t talk to each other,” she said at the time, nothing that they “just text.”
“We both love our son so much, so we don’t play any games like that,” she continued. “We have the same priority; we share spaces for him. No nonsense there.”
