Zayn Malik questioned if he’s ever “truly been in love” following his romance with Gigi Hadid.
“I don’t know if I’ve actually truly been in love at this point,” the “One Direction” alum shared during Wednesday’s episode of the “Zach Sang Show.”
He explained that the definition of love changes with experience, telling host Zach Sang, “You look back at it with new eyes and you’re like, ‘Well, maybe I wasn’t in love there.'”

Reflecting on his past, Malik continued, “Was it love or is it life experience that we are going through? Who knows. We’re just in situations where we look back at them with different eyes and it’s a completely different situation.”
The “Pillowtalk” crooner, 31, furthered that it’s hard for him to define love since he has yet to experience it outside of his family.
Malik’s last whirlwind romance was with Hadid, 29, with whom he shares 3-year-old daughter, Khai.
The former couple were in an on-and-off six-year relationship as they started dating in 2015 before calling it quits in 2018.
They briefly reconciled at the end of 2018 but broke up once again months later.
In early 2020, the British pop star and the model got back together and announced they were expecting that April.
Their relationship came to a screeching halt in October 2021 when Hadid’s mother, Yolanda Hadid, alleged Malik hit her during an argument.
At the time, the “Night Changes” singer vehemently denied the allegations and pleaded no contest to harassment charges.
Despite the boy bander and the Victoria’s Secret model’s split, they’ve maintained an amicable co-parenting relationship for their daughter.
As Malik returns to the spotlight following a years-long hiatus, he is set to release his solo album, “Room Under the Stars,” on May 17.
In his latest project, the songwriter writes about a broken relationship in his forthcoming tracks “How It Feels” and “Alienated.”
Speaking about the long-awaited album to Sang on Wednesday’s podcast, Malik explained he wrote it when he and his unnamed ex were breaking up.
“The first song that I wrote on the record was ‘Alienated,'” he said. “And it was towards the end of my relationship. Like when me and my ex were breaking up. So there’s the heavy narrative of the kinds of things I was going through mentally in that situation and what I was thinking and how I was feeling.”
Hadid has since moved on with actor Bradley Cooper as they were first spotted hanging out together in New York City last fall.
However, the couple didn’t confirm their relationship until January when they were photographed holding hands in London.
