Call it a fauxmance.
Glen Powell finally admitted that he leaned into the gossip that he was dating his “Anyone But You” co-star, Sydney Sweeney, to promote the film last year.
“The two things that you have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistry,” he said in an interview with the New York Times published Tuesday.
“Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry. That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart.”
Rumors about Powell, 35, and Sweeney, 26, were first ignited last March when they were seen on the set of the rom-com in Australia.
In photos, the “Euphoria” star — who has been engaged to Jonathan Davino since 2022 — wore a floral bikini while the “Top Gun: Maverick” actor went shirtless in just a pair of swim shorts.

The following month, Powell’s then-girlfriend, Gigi Paris, unfollowed Sweeney on Instagram as the actress shared several snaps of her off-camera adventures with the actor.
The “Immaculate” star and Powell then cozied up to one another at CinemaCon in Las Vegas last April.
Sweeney was also seen having a fun-filled day at the Taronga Zoo in Sydney with the “Hit Man” actor and his family.
Rumors about Sweeney and Powell dating began to die down after the “Madame Web” actress had several date nights with her fiancé, Davino, 40.
That May, she was also spotted wearing her engagement ring for the first time in nearly a year.
As the co-stars geared up for the release of “Anyone But You” in December 2023, the hearsay reignited when Hoda Kotb brought up their chemistry on and off the screen while appearing on the “Today” show.
When the co-anchor, 59, asked the two if they immediately knew they “had chemistry” at their first table read, the pair looked at one another before bursting into laughter.
Sweeney meekly replied, “Yeah.”
The “Handmaid’s Tale” alum poked fun at the affair rumors during her “Saturday Night Live” monologue in March 2024.
“The craziest rumor I’ve seen is that while I was filming ‘Anyone But You,’ I was having an affair with my co-star Glen Powell,” she said at the time. “That’s obviously not true. Me and my fiancé produced the movie together and he was there the entire shoot.
“And I just want to let everyone know that he’s the man of my dreams and we’re still together and stronger than ever. He even came here tonight to support me.”
Looking at the camera crew, Sweeney, 26, continued, “Can we cut to him?”
The camera then cut to Powell, who looked stunned as he was sitting in the audience.
“That’s not my fiancé!” Sweeney quipped. “He’s in my dressing room and we have a great show for you tonight!”
The gossip helped “Anyone But You” become at the box office, raking in more than $219 million worldwide, per Deadline.
