Bethenny Frankel says she used to “force” herself to have sex with ex-husband Jason Hoppy before the end of their ill-fated marriage in December 2012.
“He used to say to me, ‘You’re like a block of ice,’ because I did not want to be intimate. I did not want to have sex,” the “Real Housewives of New York City” alum recalled on Tuesday’s episode of her “Just B Divorced” podcast.
Frankel, 53, explained that her lack of “respect” for the business resulted in her “not wanting to have sex at all.”
“I used to force myself, gag myself through doing it… it is torture,” she said.

The exes tied the knot in 2010 and welcomed their daughter Bryn just a few months later. Although Frankel wished the pair waited a bit longer to conceive, she made it clear that she does not “regret” having her daughter.
“I will never regret my daughter for one minute,” she told podcast listeners, “but I felt like I was bullied and waterboarded and flogged and on a road I could not get off of.”
A few years after the pair welcomed Bryn, Frankel got pregnant once again. However, the Bravolebirty suffered a miscarriage when she was about six weeks along.
Despite the tragic loss, Frankel admitted she was “relieved” not to be bringing another child into her “suffocating” marriage.
“In a constructive way, I said, ‘I’m kind of relieved … because I don’t think this is a healthy or positive relationship,’” Frankel recalled telling Hoppy. “It was like the first step to saying something.”
Although Frankel saw the situation as an overall good thing, Hoppy was very angry about it.
“He said to me, ‘You’re a real piece of s–t, you know that?’” she recalled. “He moved out to a hotel downtown for a couple of nights, and it was total relief.”
The incident was the beginning of the end for the pair.
Bethenny filed for divorce from Hoppy in January 2013, yet the drama was far from over.
In 2017, the Bravolebrity received a temporary order of protection against Hoppy after he allegedly harassed and stalked her.
The pair battled it out in court for nearly a decade over finances and custody over their daughter. Frankel was eventually awarded full legal custody and primary residential custody of Bryn.
Their “nightmare” divorce was officially finalized in January 2021. A few months later, Frankel’s boyfriend Paul Bernon popped the question with a massive diamond sparkler.
However, Frankel has expressed hesitancy about getting married again due to her “tortuous” divorce from Hoppy.
“I don’t want to sign a contract with someone I love,” she told E! News in 2023.
“And I don’t want to plan a massive wedding for everybody else and not what we want.”
