Angelina Jolie is debuting some meaningful new ink.
The actress and humanitarian showed off a fresh design on her arm at the opening of Broadway’s “The Outsiders” last week, displaying a tattoo reading “Stay Gold” in a script font.
The phrase is a reference to the musical she’s directing alongside her 15-year-old daughter, Vivienne Jolie Pitt — who joined her on the red carpet — with one of the characters, Johnny, saying the words as he tells another, Ponyboy, to always be good and true to himself.

Jolie, 48, tattooed the quote on her inner arm, with the words appearing to have been freshly inked and healing.
Her new tat sits alongside another famous literary reference, with the “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” star also displaying a quote from a Rudyard Kipling poem reading “to the gallow’s foot and after.”
It turns out Jolie isn’t the only one sporting an “Outsiders” tattoo; Justin Levine, the musical’s co-book writer and score creator, shared a photo of his own matching “Stay Gold” tattoo on his Instagram Story.
She certainly stayed gold herself, wearing a shimmering metallic gown ($3,990) from Chloé’s collaboration with her Atelier Jolie fashion line to the musical’s opening night.
The “Maleficent” star — who covered up with a tan cape — also kept the golden theme going with her accessories, wearing large dangling statement earrings.
Jolie’s latest design joins a vast collection of tattoos gracing her arms, fingers and back.
Meanwhile, production assistant Vivienne wore a baggy blue boilersuit and sneakers as she posed on the red carpet with her famous mom.
“Viv ended up more with Justin [Levine] than with me, so you can tell by choice of attire which team she’s on. … She’s on the music, writer and greaser team,” Jolie told “Extra” about her daughter’s casual ‘fit.
Perhaps the teen will match with mom once she’s old enough to get her own “Gold” tat.
