“Boardwalk Empire” star Michael Stuhlbarg was assaulted in New York City on Sunday with a rock, police said.

Stuhlbarg, 55, had been jogging along East 90th and East Drive around 7:45 p.m. when 27-year-old Xavier Israel struck him in the back of the neck with a rock, causing an abrasion, police tell Page Six.

The “Dopesick” actor pursued Israel, who is homeless, on foot to the front of the Russian Consulate where NYPD units from a critical response command apprehended Israel, sources said.

Stuhlbarg portrayed real-life gangster Arnold Rothstein in the hit HBO series, which ran from 2010 to 2014. His character was assassinated during a high-stakes poker game at the Park Central Hotel.

In addition to “Boardwalk Empire,” Stuhlbarg is known for his work as Richard Sackler in “Dopesick,” for which he earned an Emmy nomination, and Mr. Perlman in “Call Me by Your Name.”

Stuhlbarg also has several theater credits to his name and was nominated for a Tony Award for his work in 2005’s “The Pillowman.” He also appeared in seven previous Broadway shows including “Cabaret,” “Timon of Athens,” “The Government Inspector” and “Saint Joan.”

He will return to the stage starting Monday, April 1, for a limited run of Broadway’s “Patriots” in which he’ll play Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky.

The official opening will take place on April 22 and run through June 23.
