Christina Applegate admits she ‘blacked out’ during 2024 Emmys amid her multiple sclerosis battle

Christina Applegate admitted she “blacked out” on stage during her surprise appearance at the 2024 Emmy Awards as she got candid about her ongoing battle with multiple sclerosis.

Talking to “Good Morning America” host Robin Roberts in a teaser clip for Tuesday’s episode, the “Dead to Me” actress revealed, “I kind of blacked out.”

“People said, ‘Oh, you were so funny,’ and I’m like, ‘I don’t even know what I said. I don’t know what I was doing.’ I got so freaked out that I didn’t even know what was happening anymore.”

Recalling the standing ovation she received from the audience, Applegate continued, “And I felt really beloved, and it was a beautiful thing.”

Applegate, 52, joked, “I probably shouldn’t say this, that audience stood up for everybody.”

The “Married … With Children” alum also gave a tragic update on her health, as she continues to battle the disabling disease, which affects the brain and spinal cord, per Mayo Clinic.

“I live kind of in hell. I’m not out a lot, so this is a little difficult, just for my system,” the actress continued, adding she’s received “wonderful” support throughout her journey and is “really grateful.”

Applegate shocked fans when she showed up at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles for the Emmys earlier this year.

She walked on stage with the help of a cane and host Anthony Anderson to announce the winner for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series.

At the time, the “Bad Moms” star had a bit of fun with the audience as they all stood and cheered for her.

“Thank you so much. Oh my God. You’re totally shaming me with the disability by standing up. Body not by ozempic,” she joked, referencing the Type 2 diabetes medicine, which is currently Hollywood’s favorite weight loss drug.

“Some of you may know me as Kelly Bundy from ‘Married … With Children’ … we don’t have to applaud every time I do something,” she said while tearing up.

In 2021, the mom of one was diagnosed with MS and has been open about how the condition has impacted her since.

Applegate struggled with the disease while filming “Dead to Me” from 2019 to 2022, but claimed the cast and crew were accommodating and understanding.

“There were times I’d break down on set and be like, ‘I can’t, we have to take a break, I need a half-hour,’ and everyone was so loving that it was OK,” she told the LA Times in Feb. 2023.
