Oprah Winfrey was on hand to help capture the moment Gayle King’s son, Will Bumpus Jr., proposed to his girlfriend, Elise Smith.
“It has happened! Favorite son @willgb3 has found his person and I now have a favorite daughter-in-law to be: The lovely @elisemariesmith!” King wrote in an Instagram post Monday along with several photos and videos of the joyous moment.

The “CBS Mornings” co-host, 69, explained that there were “a lot of cooks in the kitchen” and “a lot of planning” that went into accomplishing her son’s engagement.
“Here’s some behind the scenes…now just waiting for the date of the wedding!” she wrote.
King shared a video of her bestie Winfrey, 70, hiding behind a large potted plant while looking for the best place for the professional photographer to snap Bumpus’ proposal.
“Behind the scenes of the proposal. What’s your suggestion Oprah on where Bret should be?” the journalist could be heard asking her pal, referring to the cameraman.
Winfrey is then seen hilariously having a back-and-forth with the photographer about the logistics of where Smith would be standing when Bumpus, 36, proposes as King chuckles to herself.
King also shared a video of the lovebirds walking through a beautiful garden as Winfrey asks in the background, “Is it happening?”
Bumpus then gets down on one knee and asks Smith to marry him before King and Winfrey cheer as the couple seal their engagement with a kiss.
King also posted photos of her son and future daughter-in-law beaming as they held hands in coordinating white outfits.
The morning show host’s daughter, Kirby Bumpus, was also there for her brother and brought her 2-year-old son, Luca, along with her.
The couple’s family and friends crowded around to look at Smith’s diamond ring, and they commemorated the moment with a Champagne toast.
