Netflix has released a trailer for “Dead Boy Detectives,” the upcoming series following the Neil Gaiman-created comic book characters of the same name.
The series centers Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), who helm the Dead Boy Detectives agency. Teenagers born decades apart who find each other only in death, Edwin and Charles are best friends and ghosts who solve mysteries. They will do anything to stick together — including escaping evil witches, hell and Death herself. With the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal (Kassius Nelson) and her friend Niko (Yuyu Kitamura), they are able to crack some of the mortal realm’s most mystifying paranormal cases. The cast also includes Jenn Lyon, Briana Cuoco, Ruth Connell, Lukas Gage and David Iacono.
“Dead Boy Detectives” is set in the same universe as “The Sandman,” the Neil Gaiman series that debuted in August 2022.
Steve Yockey developed the series for television and wrote the first episode. He serves as showrunner alongside co-showrunner Beth Schwartz. Executive producers include Yockey, Schwartz, Greg Berlanti, Jeremy Carver, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman and Gaiman, while Lee Toland Krieger directed and executive produced the first episode. The series is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
The Dead Boy Detectives were first introduced in a 1991 issue of “The Sandman,” and have since appeared in “Children’s Crusade” and “The Books of Magic” as well as a four-issue series titled “Sandman Presents: Dead Boy Detectives” in 2001.
