Sony’s “It Ends With Us” debuted atop the U.K. and Ireland box office, with £4.5 million ($5.7 million), according to numbers from Comscore.

However, the Blake Lively-Justin Baldoni drama-romance faced stiff competition from Disney’s “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which held onto second place in its third week with £4 million, bringing its cumulative total to £42.9 million.

Universal’s “Despicable Me 4” continues to draw audiences in its fifth week, securing third place with £1.5 million and pushing its total to £35.5 million. Lionsgate U.K.’s “Borderlands” rounded out the top five in its opening weekend, earning £843,159. Warner Bros.’ “Twisters” maintained its appeal in sixth place during its fourth week, adding £619,801 to surpass the £12 million mark.

Disney’s “Inside Out 2” demonstrated remarkable staying power, holding the seventh position in its ninth week with £618,055, bringing its total to £54.1 million. Sony’s “Harold And The Purple Crayon” settled into eighth place in its second week, earning £215,080 for a cumulative £1.4 million.

Black Bear’s “Longlegs” persevered in the Top 10, landing at No. 9 in its fifth week with £212,841, pushing its total to £7.5 million. Completing the list, Sony capitalized on nostalgia with a one-week re-issue of “Spider-Man 2,” which entered the chart at No. 10 with £208,243, adding to its historic total of £26.7 million.

Looking ahead to the upcoming weekend, Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024, brings the 15th anniversary re-release of “Coraline,” from Trafalgar Releasing. The day, Indian Independence Day, sees Bollywood offerings – comedy “Khel Khel Mein,” starring Akshay Kumar, Ammy Virk and Taapsee Pannu, from AA Films U.K., “Stree 2,” the sequel to the 2018 blockbuster horror-comedy, from Bakrania Media; and Telugu-language action-drama “Mr. Bachchan,” headlined by Ravi Teja, from Dreamz Entertainment.

Disney’s highly anticipated “Alien: Romulus” from director Fede Alvarez, starring Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, Archie Renaux and David Jonsson, hits over 300 locations on Friday, Aug. 16. Sony continues its nostalgia play with a one-week-only re-issue of “Spider-Man 3.”

Picturehouse Entertainment is opening Cannes-debuting crime drama “only The River Flows,” directed by Wei Shujun, while Curzon is bowing Venice-playing Taliban documentary “Hollywoodgate.”

Other notable releases include Zee Studios International’s Bollywood drama “Vedaa,” starring John Abraham and Sharvari, and a 4K restoration of John Sayles’ “Lone Star,” from Park Circus.

The weekend’s diverse lineup is rounded out by Dogwoof’s SXSW title “Swan Song” and Vue Entertainment’s family offering, “Ryan’s World The Movie: Titan Universe Adventure.”
