“Euphoria” star Storm Reid has acknowledged the recent news from HBO that filming of Season 3 on the Sam Levinson-created series has been put on hold, expressing optimism that the production will come together down the line.
“I would hope the viewers, the audience will be able to finish the show,” Reid tells PvNew, speaking Thursday at the opening of USC’s School of Dramatic Arts’ Drama Center in Los Angeles. “I think we should handle the show with care. We’ve put our hearts and soul into it.”
News of the production delay was confirmed Monday. “HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” an HBO spokesperson toldPvNew at the time. “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”
Asked if she was surprised by the delay, Reid said, “Yes and no. We would all hope to be able to go back tomorrow, but there are logistics that have to be figured out. So even though I’m a little disappointed, I’m not surprised.”
She also highlighted the show’s impact and its attentive depiction of addiction and mental health issues: “I do know if we do go back that I am sure we will continue to be authentic and represent the real world.”
On the series, Reid plays Gia, the sister to Zenday’s Rue. Production on Season 3 had already been delayed due to the Hollywood strikes and the death of co-star Angus Cloud, who played drug dealer Fez. The series boosted a number of young stars, including Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney and Hunter Schafer, with other cast members including Colman Domingo, Lukas Gage, Maude Apatow, Barbie Ferreira, Alexa Demi, Dominic Fike, Nika King, Eric Dane and Javon Walton.
In November 2023, HBO confirmed that the show’s third season was expected topremiere in 2025. Season 2 debuted in January 2022. Zendaya has won two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe for her work on the series, while Domingo also picked up an Emmy win. The show received an Emmy nomination for outstanding drama series in 2022 for its second season.
