“Euphoria” Season 3 is officially set to begin production.

The long-delayed third season of the Emmy-winning HBO series will begin shooting in January 2025 with all principal cast members returning, per HBO.

“I am thrilled that we are ready to begin production on ‘Euphoria’ in January. We could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam and this incredible cast. We look forward to bringing this new season of ‘Euphoria’ to life for the fans,” said Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO programming and head of HBO drama series and films. ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 to Begin Filming in January 2025 With Entire Main Cast Returning

This means that production on Season 3 will begin almost exactly three years after the premiere of Season 2. HBO originally announced that production on the new season had been delayed in March 2024.

The hold up can be attributed to multiple factors. Those include: the writers’ and actors’ strike in 2023; the show’s cast experiencing a massive surge in popularity and thus booking themselves into multiple other projects; and creator Sam Levinson’s desire to write the entire show himself.

As PvNew previously reported, Levinson had gone to HBO in late 2023 and early 2024 with his ideas for the third season that included a five-year time jump as well as potential story arcs for Rue like her working as a private investigator. HBO ultimately decided to press pause on the series until it could be brought creatively in line with the previous two seasons.

The main cast of “Euphoria” includes Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Storm Reid, Alexa Demie, and Eric Dane. Angus Cloud, who broke out in his role as Fezco, died at age 25 in July 2023. Meanwhile, some cast members have already indicated they would not be returning to the show for another season, such as Barbie Ferreira.

Zendaya is also an executive producer on “Euphoria,” while Levinson is also the executive producer and director. Ravi Nandan, Drake, Adel “Future” Nur, Will Greenfield, Ashley Levinson, Ron Leshem, Daphna Levin, and Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein also executive produce. Kevin Turen was also an executive producer on the series, but he died at age 44 in November 2023.

In addition to stellar ratings, “Euphoria” has proven to be a strong awards contender for HBO. To date, the series has received 25 Emmy nominations, with nine wins. Among the wins are two for Zendaya for best actress in a drama and one for Colman Domingo for best guest actor in a drama. Levinson also won a DGA award for the Season 2 episode “Stand Still Like the Hummingbird.”
