Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager praised Oprah Winfrey for fessing up to using a weight-loss drug.
“First of all, it works for Oprah, and she’s saying it out loud, which is awesome because I don’t know how many people, if any of us, know who are taking these [drugs] but are doing it in secret and saying, ‘I’m just drinking water’ or ‘I’m just walking,'” Kotb said on “Today with Hoda & Jenna” Thursday.
Kotb noted that when people do not tell the full truth, it leads others to think, “Nothing works for me” before eventually realizing that fitness and diet are “not the whole trick.”
“She’s about to be 70,” she added. “Oprah Winfrey –– who looks spectacular –– is about to be 70 years old, and she’s going into this next decade saying, ‘You know what?!'”
Kotb, 59, also shared how losing weight is a major health factor, too, so it is not just a “cosmetic or vain thing.”
Bush Hager, 42, agreed with her co-host, pointing out that Winfrey, 69, “eats very healthy” but also has “had a lifetime of people talking about what she looks like.”
“Isn’t Oprah cool?” Bush Hager raved. “When everybody else seems to be hiding it, she’s telling the truth.”
The legendary talk show host revealed in her People cover story this week that she has been taking an unspecified weight-loss drug.
“The fact that there’s a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for,” she told the magazine.
Winfrey emphasized that she is “absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself.”
The “Color Purple” star shared that he goal weight is 160 pounds, but she has not yet hit that number.
“It was a second shot for me to live a more vital and vibrant life,” she said.
Fans first began to wonder whether Winfrey was taking some sort of weight-loss medication when she showed off her fit physique at the 2023 Academy Museum Gala earlier this month.
