Two years after Ashley Cain’s daughter, Azaylia, lost her battle to cancer, the “Challenge” star is expecting baby No. 2.
The MTV personality revealed to The Sun over the weekend that he has a son on the way with a woman he dated earlier this year.
“I got a message saying that she needed to speak to me so I went to see her and she told me she was pregnant,” the 33-year-old recalled on Sunday. “I can’t put into words how that felt.”
He went on to tell “Good Morning Britain” viewers the following day that his immediate reaction was “guilt.”
The reality star explained, “I felt slightly hurt for Azaylia, and I didn’t really expect for that to be the case.
“She would have been the most incredible big sister,” he continued of his late child. “She’s strong. She’s fearless. And even now, she would always watch over him and protect him.”
After his gut reaction, the former professional soccer player “very quickly … took the responsibility of being a father” and “got [him]self in the right mind frame.”
Cain, who believes “every child is a blessing,” subsequently told his ex — and Azaylia’s mother — Safiyya Vorajee the news, with the former couple “shed[ding] tears” together.
The duo broke up in 2022, one year after their 8-month-old’s death.
The exes’ baby girl was born in August 2020 and diagnosed with leukemia two months later. Despite going into remission, her cancer came back in February 2021.
After Azaylia’s passing, Cain told his Instagram followers that he was “shattered” by her loss.
“I can’t put into words my sadness and pain, there aren’t words to describe it,” the retired athlete wrote in April 2021. “I love you with every ounce of my body and I miss you so much already.”
