It’s a real KISS and sell story…
Copies of The New York Post’s special edition covers commemorating KISS’ final shows of the End of the Road World Tour have been selling for up to $120 on eBay.
Last week, over the course of three days, hawkers decked out in authentic KISS costumes and the band’s iconic makeup handed out wrapped copies of the paper around touristy hotspots like Times Square, the Empire State Building and Madison Square Garden.
Now the collectors’ items are going for big bucks, and even the band has given The Post props.
In addition to social media posts from the band’s official accounts, KISS legend Gene Simmons – along with his son, Nick, and bandmate Tommy Thayer – shared images of the covers via Instagram Stories.
As we previously reported, the legendary rock act – which was formed in the Big Apple in the early ’70s – went all out with a complete New York City takeover in celebration of their final shows ever at Madison Square Garden.
The MSG dates on Dec. 1 and Dec. 2 marked KISS’ final-ever live touring shows. Diehard fans will know it was actually the 50-year-old act’s second official “farewell” tour (the first being one to mark the end with original members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss in 2001), though this time they swear it’s truly the end.
Beyond The Post’s cool KISS covers, there were also various band-related events around town to celebrate the milestone: The Empire State Building was lit up in the group’s signature silver color and featured a “Rock and Roll All Nite” light show.
There was also a pop-up merch store in Midtown, a KISS MetroCard for public transit and KISS-themed events at Prince Street Pizza, tattoo parlor Inked NYC and other spots around town.
Simmons and Paul Stanley formed the group in NYC in 1973 with Frehley and Criss.
Thayer and Eric Singer replaced Frehley and Criss, respectively, for the group’s final tour.
“We’re thrilled to be doing our final shows at MSG since the band originated in New York City over 50 years ago,” the current lineup, including Simmons, 74, and Stanley, 71, told Pvnew in a statement.
“We are thankful for our long legacy of fans, the KISS Army, and excited to be celebrating through these activations.”
After the band took their final bow Saturday night, an important announcement promising a “new era” was revealed. “Today, A New Era Begins. #KISSARMY, the end is only the beginning!” a video shared on social media was captioned. “KISS have been immortalized and reborn as avatars to rock forever.”
