Is his past not-so-golden?
“Golden Bachelor” Gerry Turner allegedly criticized his ex-girlfriend for gaining weight and refused to take her to his high school reunion because of it.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the woman — who went by Carolyn in the article to keep her anonymity — recalled their alleged tumultuous romance, saying she was shocked he was looking for love on national television.
In the show, Turner claimed he hadn’t been kissed since his ex-wife, Toni, died in 2017. However, the woman alleged she and the 72-year-old had a three-year relationship and that they started dating only a month after Toni’s passing.
Carolyn — who is 14 years his junior and was a staff accountant at the mental health center he worked at as a maintenance man — also claimed to the outlet that a lot of the lines he used to swoon the women in the show were the same ones he used on her.
For example, Turner allegedly texted Carolyn on Sept. 2, 2017, per THR, “Damn, I go to bed at night thinking of you and wake up in the morning thinking of you.”
The dad of two said something similar to fitness instructor Leslie, who was one of his two finalists.
In Costa Rica, Turner told her, “I have to have you with my morning coffee, I have to have you when I go to bed at night…”
Carolyn further claimed that she and the former Mr. Quick Restaurants owner dated for 10 months before they moved in together — upon his constant insistence — in the summer of 2018. That’s when he allegedly began to show a different side of him.
Turner allegedly told Carolyn that she needed to pay $850 a month to cover her expenses and that they needed to split the cost of all meals — except on special occasions.
The outlet reported that “at restaurants, Carolyn paid her half in advance, and then when the check came, Gerry paid the whole tab, like the big man.”
Turner would allegedly also insist that Carolyn make the bed before sitting down to have breakfast with him.
But things took a turn for the worse in their relationship in October 2019, when Carolyn was getting ready to join her beau at his high school reunion.
“I’m not taking you to the reunion looking like that,” Carolyn — who said she put on 10 pounds at the time due to stress — recalled Turner allegedly saying, referring to her body. That’s when they called it quits.
Carolyn further claimed to the Hollywood Reporter that Turner wanted her out of his home by Jan. 1, 2020, and he would cover the cost of her U-Haul as long as she paid the expenses for the vendor.
Pvnew reached out to ABC for comment but did not immediately hear back.
Turner rose to fame when he was named the first “Golden Bachelor” amid his search for love in the “sunset years of his life,” per ABC.
Twenty-two women between the ages of 60 and 75, including former “Bachelor” star Matt James’ mom, Patty, signed up to fight for his heart. However, as the show reaches its finale, Turner is currently deciding between Leslie and Theresa.
Season 1 of “The Golden Bachelor” airs Thursdays on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.
