Taylor Swift’s parents decided to take a rain check on meeting Travis Kelce’s mother and father at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., during Monday Night Football amid the pop star’s absence.
TMZ was the first one to report the news just hours before the Philadelphia Eagles versus the Kansas City Chiefs game.
It had previously been reported that the two families would meet for the first time at the game.
“Taylor and Travis have met each other’s parents so it only makes sense that they’d want their parents to meet each other as things between them are getting really serious,” an insider told Us Weekly last week.
“Taylor and Travis both have a very close bond with their parents and it’s really important that their families blend seamlessly, as well.”
The decision came after Taylor was forced to stay in South America to play a rescheduled show in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Monday evening.
At the Grammy winner’s concert on Friday, fans were subjected to dangerous temperatures which seemingly contributed to the death of one young attendee.
Ana Clara Benevides suffered cardiac arrest waiting for Taylor’s show to begin at Estádio Nilton Santos and was “resuscitated at the stadium for about 40 minutes,” per Brazilian newspaper Folha de S.Paulo (via Hindustan Times).
She went into cardiac arrest a second time en route to the hospital and was declared dead shortly after.
After the show, Taylor released a statement addressing Benevides’ death, writing that she was “devastated” over the news.
“I can’t believe I’m writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show,” the “Lavender Haze” singer, 33, wrote via her Instagram Story.
“I’m not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it,” she added.
The following day, as fans were already lined up at the stadium for Saturday’s show, the “Look What You Made Me Do” songstress announced that she was postponing the concert due to the “extreme temperatures.”
“I’m writing this from my dressing room in the stadium. The decision has been made to postpone tonight’s show due to the extreme temperatures in Rio,” Taylor shared via her Instagram Story.
“The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers and crew always has to come first.”
Despite the delay in plans, both she and Travis have already been able to get in their own time with each other’s parents.
Earlier this month, the tight end, 34, was spotted dancing and smiling in a VIP tent alongside the “Blank Space” singer’s father during her Eras Tour concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The two definitely seemed comfortable with each other, with Scott even cheering when his daughter switched up the lyrics to “Karma” to give the football player a sweet shoutout.
Reflecting on his two-day trip to Argentina on his “New Heights” podcast, Travis said that he enjoyed a meal with Taylor and her dad the evening before the show.
“I might have persuaded him [to be a Kansas City Chiefs fan] at dinner the night before when I met him,” Travis told his brother, explaining that Scott is a longtime Philadelphia Eagles supporter.
As for Taylor, the “All Too Well” songstress was actually spotted alongside Donna at her first Chiefs game on Sept. 24 when she and the NFL star confirmed their romance.
Since then, Taylor has been seen with both Donna and Ed at more games, and Travis’ parents have made it clear that they are fans of the hitmaker.
Last month, Ed told People that Taylor is a “very, very sweet” and “down-to-earth young woman.”
He also recalled a specific moment in the VIP box, which indicated that the “Cruel Summer” songstress was definitely not a “diva.”
“She gets up to go get a drink or something and she starts picking up empty bottles, cans, plates that are scattered around,” Ed recalled.
“And I’m just thinking, I don’t think she got the diva memo,” he continued. “She didn’t get the spoiled musician. She doesn’t know how to pull that off. And that really to me said a whole lot.”
Meanwhile, Donna was spotted wearing friendship bracelets — a nod to the start of Travis and Taylor’s relationship — as she sat alongside the singer at the Oct. 13 Chiefs game.
