SZA’s fling with Drake in 2009 was a bit of a “Snooze.”
The “SOS” singer reflected on her short-lived romance with the rapper while chatting with Rolling Stone for her cover story published Tuesday.
“We were really young,” the songstress, 33, told the outlet. “It wasn’t hot and heavy or anything. It was like youth vibes. It was so childish.”
The pair started seeing each other shortly after SZA graduated high school when they were both spending time in New York City.
Despite keeping their romance under wraps for over a decade, Drake, 36, let the cat out of the bag on the 2020 song, “Mr. Right Now.”
“Yeah, said she wanna f—k to some SZA, wait / ‘Cause I used to date SZA back in ’08,” he rapped on the track.
After the “Her Loss” rapper spilled the beans, SZA took to Twitter to set the record straight on the timeline of their relationship.
“So it was actually 2009 lol,” she tweeted in October 2020. “In this case a year of poetic rap license mattered lol I think he just innocently rhymed 08 w wait . Anybody who really knows me and was around during this time can confirm … it’s all love all peace.”
SZA — who was 18 at the time while Drake was 21 — noted that she wanted to clarify so no one thought she was “underage” or that there was anything “creepy” on the “Degrassi” alum’s end.
“Completely innocent,” she wrote. “Lifetimes ago.”
Despite her brief romance with the “Hotline Bling” rapper, the “Kill Bill” singer has kept most of her private life out of the public eye.
Meanwhile, Drake also insinuated that he wished he had kept his past relationships out of his music earlier this year.
While chatting with Lil Yachty on “Moody Conversations” in March, the Canadian-born musician revealed that one of his biggest regrets is name-dropping his exes in songs and subsequently “disrupting” their lives.
“I had somebody tell me one time, ‘You know, it’s not necessarily what you’re saying about me, it’s the fact that you said it,'” he recalled of a conversion with an ex-girlfriend.
“‘You don’t know who my boyfriend is at the time, or you don’t know what my family knows or doesn’t know. And if you express any form of discontent for me and call me by name in a song, then all of a sudden I’m left to pick up the pieces of my own life that I’ve tried to build up for myself.'”
While it is unclear which one of Drake’s exes called him out, he and SZA seem to be on great terms.
The Grammy winners released their first collaboration, “Slime You Out,” last month and the track quickly made its way to the top of the charts.
SZA also revealed during her cover story that she dated the same man on and off for the past 11 years.
However, she and the mystery man — who she was even engaged to at one point — recently decided to go their separate ways.
Since then, the “Love Galore” singer has been linked to Travis Scott.
