Tristan Thompson is officially his younger brother Amari’s temporary guardian.
A Los Angeles court granted the request Wednesday after the NBA free agent first filed legal documents on Sept. 8 following the shocking death of their mother, Andrea Thompson, in January.
Amari, 17, has epilepsy in addition to other medical conditions that require 24/7 support, which led Tristan to request guardianship.
Tristan serving as Amari’s guardian allows him to manage his brother’s finances, travel both domestically and internationally with Amari, decide on living arrangements and more, the court documents, obtained by Pvnew, state.
The court decided there was “sufficient evidence” and “good cause” for the athlete, 32, to take guardianship over Amari temporarily.
In Tristan’s initial filing, obtained by Pvnew, he claimed their father, Trevor Thompson, has played no role in Amari’s life since 2014. Amari moved into Tristan’s Hidden Hills, Calif., home following Andrea’s death.
Tristan also claimed he was Amari’s closest living family member and said he wanted to help his brother manage and invest Andrea’s inheritance.
Upon hearing the news of his mother’s death, Tristan and ex Khloé Kardashian flew to Toronto to be with his family. Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner joined the pair at the funeral.
The Good American co-founder and Tristan share son Tatum, 13 months, and daughter True, 5. He also shares son Prince, 6, with ex Jordan Craig and nearly 2-year-old son Theo with Maralee Nichols.
Season 2 of Hulu’s “The Kardashians” detailed how Tristan and Amari had to move in with Khloé after Tristan’s roof caved in and had to undergo a massive repair.
“I’m grateful that I’m strong enough and brave enough to be a support system for someone else that has no other support system right now,” Khloé said in a confessional.
“You don’t have to treat me right for me to treat you right – it’s not the way I was raised.”
The reality star also explained that the living situation allowed Tatum to bond with his Uncle Amari, saying they really “like each other.”
