Deryck Whibley, the lead singer of the pop-punk band Sum 41, is currently battling pneumonia in the hospital.
The “In Too Deep” singer, 43, was rushed to the emergency room Friday after his health took a turn for the worse.
“Deryck and I were suppose to be in Chicago right now, celebrating our eight year wedding anniversary but the universe had a different plan for us,” his wife, Ariana Whibley, shared on Instagram alongside photos of Deryck being put into an ambulance while on a stretcher and later holding her hand with an IV in his arm.
“We spent the entire night in the ER and will now be spending the next few days here in the hospital as he fights through pneumonia,” she added.
The mother of two then shared just how severe Deryck’s health issues are, stating, “The scariest part is that there is a lot of strain on his heart and they are telling us that there is a possibility of heart failure.”
Ariana also noted that she and her husband have had to go through difficult times before.
In 2014, Deryck spent a month in the hospital after his drinking got out of control. He was on the brink of death and the 5-foot-7 rocker withered down to a very small frame at the time.
“This is obviously not our first time in a situation like this but it brings back a lot of really difficult memories seeing him back in a hospital bed connected to wires and IVs,” Ariana said on Instagram Friday, recalling the previous health struggles.
“I know how strong he is because I have witnessed what he has been able to overcome but that doesn’t make it any easier to see.”
She concluded, “I’ll do my best to keep everyone updated but if you could keep him in your heart over the next few days, we could really use it.”
Ariana and Deryck wed in 2015. The “Still Waiting” singer was previously married to Avril Lavigne from 2006 to 2010.
Pvnew has reached out to Sum 41’s reps for comment but did not immediately hear back; however, Ariana later shared on social media that the rocker had been discharged after “responding so well to his treatments.”
“The pressure and strain on his heart and lungs has improved and he is able to breathe without as much pain,” she added.
The band, known for their 2001 hit song “Fat Lip,” announced in May that they are breaking up after 27 years together.
“Being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments in our lives,” Deryck, Dave Baksh, Jason McCaslin, Tom Thacker and Frank Zummo said in a statement via Instagram at the time.
“We are forever grateful to our fans both old and new, who have supported us in any way. It is hard to articulate the love and respect we have for all of you and we wanted you to hear this from us first.”
Sum 41 just concluded their Let the Bad Times Roll tour in North America earlier this month.
