What’s wrong with being confident?

Demi Lovato hit the VMAs 2023 red carpet on Tuesday, looking every inch the rock star in a black pleated skirt minidress with leather details and an oversized black leather coat, both by emerging Chinese brand Buerlangma.

She accessorized with jewelry from Lorraine Schwartz and Ofira Jewels, added some rocker flair with smoky eyeshadow and slicked her black bob back to complete the look.

Lovato, 31, appeared to attend the awards show solo, leaving boyfriend Jordan Lutes, who goes by Jutes, at home.

The couple have been dating since August 2022 and the star recently opened up about how dating Jutes, 31, helped heal her “daddy issues” after dating older men — including Wilmer Valderrama — in her younger years, calling it “gross.”

The star has a big night ahead of her, as she’s nominated for Best Pop Video and Video for Good and will perform at the MTV awards show for the first time in six years.

The appearance comes as an opportune time for Lovato, who split from longtime manager Scooter Braun last month; she recently made an appearance on “The Masked Singer” dressed in a mouse costume, and is set to release her new album, “Revamped,” on Sept. 15.

“Revamped” will feature reimagined rock versions of some of the “Camp Rock” star’s top hits, including “Skyscraper,” “Heart Attack,” “Don’t Forget” and more.

It’s unclear what Lovato will sing to mark her return to the VMAs stage, but her 2017 performance included the original versions of “Sorry Not Sorry” and “Cool For the Summer,” so fans might expect her to revisit the old favorites in a new format.

The MTV VMAs, hosted by Nicki Minaj, air live from New Jersey’s Prudential Center on Tuesday, September 12 at 8 p.m. on MTV and will be streaming on Paramount+.
