Priscilla Presley knew that something was “not right” in the days leading up to daughter Lisa Marie Presley’s death.
The duo’s final moments together took place at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles where they were celebrating Austin Butler’s Golden Globes win for “Elvis” in January.
“We had just gotten there, you go down all these stairs,” Priscilla recalled in a Hollywood Reporter interview with Sofia Coppola published Wednesday.
“I tripped a little bit because I had these high heels on, and she started laughing so hard,” the actress, 78, continued. “I started laughing. We hadn’t even had a drink yet. She goes, ‘Oh my God, Mom, you can’t even have a drink.'”
Priscilla’s “fun memory” concluded with the pair sitting down to order drinks.
When Lisa Marie said, “Mom, my stomach hurts really bad,” she and Priscilla “immediately got up and left.”
Danny Keough called Priscilla a couple of days later when Lisa Marie suffered cardiac arrest, but the singer was “already gone” when her mother arrived to the hospital.
“I still can’t believe it,” Priscilla told the outlet. “I don’t wish this on any mother.”
She confirmed her “passionate, strong and loving” child’s death at the time, writing, “It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter, Lisa Marie, has left us.”
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner revealed six months later that the composer’s cause of death was a small bowel obstruction.
Lisa Marie’s passing came on the heels of her son Benjamin Keough’s July 2020 suicide. She is survived by daughter Riley Keough, as well as twins Finley and Harper.
While Priscilla and Riley, 34, battled over Lisa Marie’s estate in the wake of her death, the family members reached a settlement in June with the “Daisy Jones & the Six” star paying her grandma over $1 million.
“My granddaughter, through her counsel, along with my team worked diligently and tirelessly to resolve all misunderstandings as a family,” Priscilla wrote in a statement at the time. “Elvis would be proud and his and Lisa’s wishes are what are most important to all of us.”
Earlier this month, Riley told Vanity Fair that becoming the sole trustee led to “a bit of upheaval” in her family.
Priscilla clarified on Wednesday that she and the Emmy nominee are on “good terms” and have “never not been.”
