Sofia Richie is taking a page out of Rihanna’s pregnancy style playbook.
Richie revealed on Tuesday that she is six months pregnant with her and husband Elliot Grainge’s first child, a baby girl.
However, the 25-year-old trendsetter told Vogue she won’t be “tapping into maternity wear for this pregnancy” and instead plans to just keep “sizing up.”
“I’m also not buying an entirely new wardrobe for this pregnancy,” she noted. “I’ve bought a few pairs of pants in bigger sizes, but I’m wearing my same jackets, sweats and trenches.”
The Bad Gal would surely approve; when the same outlet interviewed Rihanna while she was expecting baby RZA, she said, “There’s no way I’m going to go shopping in no maternity aisle!”
Continued the fashion icon at the time, “I’m sorry — it’s too much fun to get dressed up. I’m not going to let that part disappear because my body is changing.”
From her sheer black Dior dress at Paris Fashion Week to the bump-baring crystal bra top and micro-miniskirt she wore out in Santa Monica, the “Umbrella” singer, true to her word, went on to redefine pregnancy style.
“I’m hoping that we were able to redefine what’s considered ‘decent’ for pregnant women,” she told Vogue. “My body is doing incredible things right now, and I’m not going to be ashamed of that. This time should feel celebratory. Because why should you be hiding your pregnancy?”
It would appear Rihanna achieved her goal: Since then, a slew of other Hollywood heavy-hitters like Kourtney Kardashian, Suki Waterhouse and Sienna Miller have all proudly bared their bumps while walking red carpets or hitting the town.
As for Richie, the model had been bundling up in large coats and bulky sweaters over the past couple months, sparking speculation that she was potentially hiding a baby bump.
And now that the cat’s out of the bag, Richie — who is the daughter of singer Lionel Richie — says she plans to take her pregnancy fashion up a notch.
“Now that we’re announcing it, I have so many ideas,” she told Vogue. “I’m about to have some fun with it now that I can spread my wings and fly.”
Although Richie is known for her “old money” style, time will tell if she experiments with more daring, Rihanna-esque outfits during her final trimester.
She opted for a series of simple yet bump-forward looks for her Vogue shoot, including a curve-hugging black Saint Laurent gown and a red coat from The Row, the latter worn open to show off her belly.
“Our hearts are filled with so much love! So thankful for all of your support!” Richie wrote on Instagram alongside a photos of herself from the shoot wearing an unbuttoned pantsuit styled sans shirt.
“Can’t wait for this next chapter of life.”
