Nearly two years after telling Britney Spears to make Sam Asghari “sign a prenup,” Octavia Spencer is still in the Princess of Pop’s corner.
The actress took to Instagram to share her opinion on Pvnew’s reporting that Asghari is attempting to renegotiate his prenup — and “threatening to go public with extraordinarily embarrassing information about Britney unless he gets paid.”
The Oscar winner, 53, commented on a Wednesday social media upload sharing the allegation, noting that “extortion is illegal.”
After news broke earlier that same day of Asghari filing for divorce from Spears after 14 months of marriage, Spencer’s September 2021 warning to the “Gimme More” singer resurfaced online.
At the time, Spears revealed her engagement ring via Instagram and told her Instagram followers that Asghari, 29, had proposed after nearly five years of dating.
“make him sign a prenup,” Spencer commented on the announcement.
After the remark went viral, the “Hidden Figures” star walked it back and claimed that she had only been making a “joke.”
She apologized, writing, “My intention was to make them laugh not cause pain. I’ve reached out to this lovely couple privately to apologize and now want to restore just a smidge of happiness they were robbed of.
“Britney’s fans have seen her through a lot of pain and she’s found happiness,” Spencer continued, referencing Spears’ 13-year conservatorship, which came to an end two months later. “We’re thrilled for her. So let’s show them love. #nonegativity.”
Asghari accepted the Golden Globe winner’s apology with a playful comment.
“You are very kind to clarify but i have no hard feelings whatsoever,” the fitness trainer wrote. “Jokes and misconceptions come with the territory.”
Notably, he had previously joked via Instagram Stories with those “concerned about the prenup,” writing, “Of course we’re getting iron clad prenup to protect my jeep and shoe collection in case she dumps me one day.”
As the estranged couple’s divorce battle rages — with reports via TMZ of Spears allegedly cheating with a staff member and punching her partner in his sleep — Asghari broke his silence Thursday.
“After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together,” the model-turned-actor wrote on his Story. “We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always. S–t happens.”
His rep also addressed his reported prenup challenges in a statement, telling us, “No negative intention has ever been directed towards [Spears] and never will be.”
The “Crossroads” star, for her part, has yet to directly comment on the breakup but appears unbothered on Instagram, posting about “buying a horse” and analyzing artwork.
