Sam Asghari and Britney Spears are officially calling it quits.
The fitness trainer filed for divorce from the pop star Wednesday just hours after news of their split broke, multiple outlets report.
According to TMZ, Asghari cited “irreconcilable differences” and is also asking for the star to pay spousal support and his attorneys’ fees.
Curiously, he listed their separation date as July 28.
Asghari’s lawyer, Neal Hersh, also hinted that he could contest their prenup as the court documents reportedly read, “[He] has yet to determine the full nature and extent of the separate property assets and obligations of each party.”
“There are various items of community and quasi-community assets and debts, the full nature and extent of which are unknown to [Sam] at this time,” it continued.
Hersh’s alleged motives come shortly after a source told Pvnew that Asghari allegedly wants to renegotiate their prenup in return for keeping her secrets.
The source told us that Asghari is “attempting to negotiate concessions beyond his prenup and threatening to go public with extraordinarily embarrassing information about Britney unless he gets paid.”
The insider sniffed, “So that’s what Sam is focused on.”
However, we’re told Spears is also coming in with guns blazing, as Pvnew has learned that she’s hired powerhouse divorce attorney Laura Wasser.
Rumors that Asghari, 29, and Spears, 41, were on the rocks have been swirling for a while amid reports that the two had been living apart for quite some time.
Pvnew confirmed earlier on Wednesday that the former lovebirds had split.
Sources claimed to TMZ that the two had “a nuclear argument” that involved allegations of cheating.
Multiple insiders told the outlet that a fight reportedly broke out after Asghari confronted Spears about a rumor claiming the “Toxic” singer had been unfaithful to him.
“It’s only a matter of time before Sam files for divorce,” one source said, noting that Asghari had already been living in a place of his own.
The report came just a few months after Asghari took to his Instagram Stories to slam TMZ’s “disgusting” TV special about Spears, which included allegations that their marriage was in “trouble.”
“I found it absolutely disgusting for the people who were in her life when she didn’t have a voice, they went and told her story like it was theirs. It was absolutely disgusting,” Asghari said in a series of videos, referencing his wife’s traumatic, years-long conservatorship that was terminated in November 2021.
“How are you going to take the most influential person of her generation, the Princess of Pop, America’s sweetheart, and put her in prison where her father [Jamie Spears] tells her what to do, what water to drink, who to see and use her as a money-making machine?” he continued.
“All of a sudden — after 15 years when she’s free after all those gaslighting, all those things that went down — now you’re going to put her under a microscope and tell her story? No, no, that’s also disgusting, so don’t do that, and don’t believe what you read online.”
Spears and Asghari started dating after meeting on the set of the Grammy winner’s music video for “Slumber Party” in 2016.
“Sam has been a huge support for Britney,” a source told Pvnew in June 2021. “He helps boost her confidence.”
They got engaged in September 2021 and tied the knot in the backyard of Spears’ mansion in Thousand Oaks, Calif., in June 2022.
Stars like Madonna, Selena Gomez, Paris Hilton and Drew Barrymore were all in attendance to watch the couple say “I do” during the fairy-tale ceremony.
“Britney and Sam signed a prenup in her favor,” a source told Pvnew at the time. “Any money she made before the wedding is protected.”
The nuptials marked Spears’ third time down the aisle.
She was previously married to childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander in 2004 and backup dancer-turned-DJ Kevin Federline from 2004 to 2007.
She shares two kids with her second ex-husband: Sean Preston, 17, and Jayden James, 16.
