Emma Slater wants to be a mom – just not any time soon.
One year following her split from fellow “Dancing With the Stars” pro Sasha Farber, the choreographer finally revealed that having kids was the reason behind the former couple’s “difficult” decision to file for divorce.
“We’re just at potentially two different places. But the hard part was that the love actually didn’t go [away],” Slater, 34, said during her guest appearance on “DWTS” alum Nick Viall’s “Viall Files” podcast.
“It’s really the kid thing. It’s interesting because I do want to have kids,” she added. “I just don’t want to delay Sasha’s path in having kids because I know that he is ready for that.”
Slater continued on, explaining that she’s just not sure what her own path looks like at the moment.
“I do want kids. I don’t know what it is, I’m just figuring that out for myself. It’s not something I take lightly and I don’t want to enter into something that I’m not sure about because I would never do that,” she shared.
“So, that’s been the real friction and the real hard part [of our split]. It had nothing to do with him. He’s always been very much himself. It’s me that’s found it difficult to understand why I’m feeling different.”
Farber has yet to publicly respond to the comments Slater made on the podcast. The professional dancer appeared to have a chill guys’ night with fellow pros Gleb Savchenko and Artem Chigvintsev ahead of the episode release.
However, there seems to be no bad blood between Farber and Slater as the two have been continuing to work together amicably ever since the split news first broke in August 2022. Farber officially filed for divorce from Slater in February 2023, nearly one year after their breakup.
He shared a sweet snap of Slater via his Instagram Stories Wednesday to congratulate her “on the first episode” of her new show, “Hollywood After Dark.”
“We’re still like family,” Slater reiterated during the podcast interview. “It isn’t really like the love is not there. It’s actually not that at all.”
As previously reported, the former couple dated on and off since 2011. Farber eventually proposed to Slater during a live taping of “DWTS” in October 2016 after they performed a beautiful contemporary routine together.
They tied the knot in Los Angeles in March 2018 with plenty of their fellow pros in attendance.
“Dancing With the Stars” returns this fall with “Vanderpump Rules” star Ariana Madix set to make her ballroom debut. The full Season 32 cast will be revealed Sept. 13 on “Good Morning America.”
