Brittany Mahomes wants to raise awareness about severe food allergies in young children after her 1-year-old son, Bronze, was rushed to the hospital due to an undiscovered peanut allergy over the summer.
Mahomes called the incident “one of the scariest experiences of [her] life” and is now hoping to teach others “how to best respond” if they ever face a similar situation.
“Like all moms, my kids’ safety and happiness is my number one priority,” the 28-year-old captioned a video of her and her little ones on Instagram Wednesday.
“I recently received an outpouring of support from other moms and parents after sharing my experience with Bronze’s severe allergic reaction to peanuts.”
In the video, Brittany sat on a couch with her son, Bronze — whose full name is Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III — and daughter Sterling Skye, almost 3, whom she shares with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
“So I have an infant and a toddler both who have severe food allergies and I think it is very important to raise awareness of what a severe reaction may look like if it was to happen to a child,” she said in the video partnership with AUVI-Q, an epinephrine injection used to treat allergic reactions in infants and toddlers.
“based on my experience, I can tell you that a severe reaction may not look how you think it should look,” the mother of two continued.
Although Brittany didn’t elaborate on Bronze’s exact reaction, she noted that they immediately saw their son’s pediatrician to get medication for any future incidents.
“The safety of your child is your upmost important thing when you are out and about,” she added, noting that it’s “very important to educate everyone on how to use” the injectors in case of an emergency.
The Kansas City Current co-owner revealed to her Instagram followers in August that they had to rush their youngest to the ER after learning he is “highly highly allergic to peanuts.”
“We took a very scary and frantic trip to the ER yesterday,” she captioned a photo of Bronze sipping on a bottle.
“The scariest 30 mins of my life,” she added.
Despite being together since high school, the NFL star, 28, and the former soccer player didn’t tie the knot until March 2022.
The pair said “I do” during a lavish ceremony in Hawaii surrounded by their closest friends and family — including Travis Kelce, who served as groomsman.
They welcomed their daughter in February 2021 and their son in November 2022.
