This former Disney darling is taking back her mouse ears.
Miley Cyrus threw it back to her Disney days by wearing a Mickey Mouse shirt to tease her forthcoming single, “Used To Be Young,” on Spotify.
Popular account Pop base shared the mysterious image on Twitter Wednesday, pointing out that the “Can’t Be Tamed” singer, 30, is wearing a deconstructed white T-shirt with a colorful picture of Mickey Mouse on top of a red sequined bustier.
The top is part of a collaboration between Disney and designers like Tommy Hilfiger, artist and other House of Mouse-adjacent characters, with proceeds benefiting the Make a Wish Foundation.
Miley’s one-of-a-kind shirt was actually donated by Maison Margiela as part of it’s “recicla” line that favors experimenting with unconventional material and deconstructing looks. It was originally found in Los Angeles in the 1980s and was repurposed by the Maison Margiela atelier.
It appears the photo was pulled from her Spotify profile by fans, so when listeners tune in to her songs on their phones, they’ll see the outline of the pop star in the Disney tee — and the look is sparking speculation about what her new music may contain.
One fan account mused, “oh she has some things to say! mickey better hide.”
Another fan guessed, “The song must be very emotional and personal.”
Indeed it appears that Cyrus — who starred in “Hannah Montana” on the wildly popular Disney Channel from 2006 until 2011 — may be gearing up to delve into her past in more ways than one.
“I know I used to be crazy. I know I used to be fun. You say I used to be wild. I say I used to be young,” the actress tweeted on Wednesday, revealing lyrics to her new song, which drops Aug. 25.
On Tuesday, photos surfaced of Cyrus promoting her single while rocking a latex cone bra and matching hot pants in black and white posters all over Los Angeles — which eagle-eyed fans compared to her infamous 2013 VMA performance outfit.
The memorable moment saw the “Flowers” singer wearing a similar set underneath a teddy bear costume during her “We Can’t Stop” and “Blurred Lines” performance, where she was joined by Robin Thicke.
