Meet the Jolie-Pitts.
Prior to Brad Pitt and Angela Jolie’s September 2016 breakup, the “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” co-stars raised six kids together: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne.
Jolie told Vogue in September 2023 that she and her brood had a “lot of healing to do” after the divorce.
The actress credited her kids with saving her from going “under in a much darker way,” explaining that she “wanted to live for them” during a “recent” hard time.
Jolie’s cryptic comment came two years after Pitt won joint legal custody of their five youngest children amid a lengthy court battle and falling out with Maddox.
Get to know each member of the former couple’s family below.
Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt
Seven months after Maddox was born in Cambodia in August 2001, Jolie adopted him on her own — despite being married to Billy Bob Thornton at the time.
The pair divorced in May 2003. Two years later, Jolie moved on with Pitt, and the “Fight Club” star adopted Maddox in early 2006.
Maddox has worked with his mom on multiple occasions, from acting as an assistant on his parents’ 2015 drama “By the Sea” to executive producing Jolie’s 2017 film “First They Killed My Father” about the Cambodian genocide.
Maddox was the first of the exes’ kids to leave home for college, starting his freshman year at Yonsei University in South Korea in August 2019.
The teen was on campus when asked about the future of his strained relationship with Pitt, which reportedly had not been the same since the Oscar winner screamed at Maddox during an infamous private jet fight three years prior.
“Whatever happens, happens,” Maddox told a reporter at the time, adding that he did not know whether Pitt had any plans to visit him.
Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt
Pax was born in Vietnam in November 2003, getting adopted by Jolie in March 2007 when he was 3 years old. Pitt’s adoption of the little one was finalized in February 2008.
Like Maddox, Pax has worked with Jolie over the years as a voice actor on “Kung Fu Panda 3” and a set photographer for “First They Killed My Father.”
Pvnew exclusively reported in January 2023 that Pax was secretly an artist working in “digital and mixed media” under the pseudonym Embtto, which Jolie’s rep denied.
Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt
Jolie adopted Zahara from Ethiopia solo, seven months after the baby girl’s January 2005 birth. Pitt adopted her in early 2006.
While the former couple’s eldest daughter has dabbled in Hollywood with a voice role in “Kung Fu Panda 3,” she has followed her parents’ footsteps with humanitarian work by designing jewelry in October 2019 with proceeds benefiting battered women.
In August 2022, Zahara became a Spelman College student.
“I’m going to start crying if I talk about [it] … so hopefully I can hold it together,” Jolie said in August 2022 Instagram footage.
That same year, Pitt gushed about his “smart” child, telling Vanity Fair, “She’s going to flourish even more at college. It’s an exciting and beautiful time to find her own way and pursue her interests. I’m so proud.”
While studying in Georgia, Zahara often reunites with her mother on campus visits, New York City trips and more.
Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt
Jolie gave birth to daughter Shiloh in May 2006 in a Namibian hospital.
The “Salt” star called Shiloh “one of the brothers” in a Reuters interview four years later, saying she would never “force somebody to be something they are not.”
Jolie added, “Children should be allowed to express themselves in whatever way they wish without anybody judging them because it is an important part of their growth. Society always has something to learn when it comes to the way we judge each other, label each other. We have far to go.”
While Shiloh stays out of the spotlight, she debuted a pink buzzcut in August 2023.
She is also a “very beautiful” dancer despite Pitt being “Mr. Two Left Feet,” he told “Entertainment Tonight” in an August 2022 interview.
“It brings a tear to the eye,” he said. “I don’t know where she got it from.”
Knox Leon Jolie-Pitt
In July 2008, Jolie’s twins were born in France, with Knox joining the family minutes before sister Vivienne. Jolie debuted her baby bump five months prior at the Independent Spirit Awards.
Since his arrival, Knox has only made rare public appearances, including a Universal Studios trip in August 2022 and a coffee run with Pax, Zahara and Shiloh in July of the following year.
Similar to his siblings, Knox voiced a “Kung Fu Panda 3” character in 2016.
Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt
Welcoming twins was a “shock” for Pitt and Jolie, with her telling Entertainment Weekly in 2008 that they were up to the “challenge” and had help from their other kids who were “old enough to feel included.”
Unlike her brother, Vivienne acted alongside her mom in the 2014 movie “Maleficent” as a young version of Aurora.
In August 2023, Vivienne joined Jolie as a volunteer assistant in the Golden Globe winner’s Broadway production of “The Outsiders.”
