Jeezy admitted that no amount of work on his marriage with Jeannie Mai was going to save them from divorce.
“This has not been an easy journey,” the “Soul Survivor” rapper said in an interview with Nia Long released Tuesday.
After telling the “Best Man” actress that he attempted to go to therapy to fix his marital woes, Jeezy told Long that he realized he can “only be responsible for [himself].”
“I can tell you that I’m saddened. I can tell you I’m disappointed. I can tell you that I’m uneasy,” Jeezy (Jay Wayne Jenkins) shared.
“I can only do what I can do. I can’t expect someone else to do what I’m doing.”
Taking a more spiritual tone, Jeezy, 46, said that he believes “God has put [him] on a different path” than the one he was on with his estranged wife.
“And that path is going to entail for me to take care of myself. And love myself.”
As previously reported, Jeezy filed for divorce from the TV host, 44, on Sept. 15 after two years of marriage.
Speaking exclusively to Pvnew, the rapper told us that his “decision to end this chapter in [his life] was not made impulsively and comes with a heavy heart.”
“Despite this, my love and respect for Jeannie remains and the time we spent together holds a cherished place in my heart.”
Jeezy, who shares 1-year-old daughter Monaco with Mai, told us that their daughter was the “best gift” he and Mai received from their marriage.
“I am committed to assuring she feels the love and stability she deserves.”
According to court docs obtained by Pvnew, Jeezy is seeking joint legal custody of Monaco.
The former couple also have a pre-nuptial agreement in place.
While neither Jeezy nor Mai have publicly spoken about why they drifted apart, an insider told “Entertainment Tonight” that the two just weren’t on the same page about “certain family values and expectations.”
“They had different views, and each felt like their needs weren’t being completely met,” the insider shared.
As for Mai, she hasn’t publicly addressed their split at all and has even
However, a source familiar with the TV personality told us in September that Mai was “devastated” over the split and wanted “her family unit back.”
“The truth is Jeannie wants her marriage to work, and wants her family to be one solid unit,” we were told at the time.
“She is devastated that Jeezy filed for divorce.”
Jeezy and the “Real” co-host tied the knot at their home in Atlanta on March 27, 2021, after dating for three years.
As of September, sources told TMZ that the exes were still living under the same roof and only interacting with each other as they come and go.
