Christine Romans, a veteran financial journalist who had been with CNN for more than two decades, has joined NBC News.
In her new role, Romans will be charged with “reporting across all platforms of NBC News, including writing for digital and on MSNBC,” according to a memo issued Monday by Catherine Kim, senior vice president editorial for NBC News. “As our senior business correspondent based in New York, Christine will cover all aspects of major breaking business news with a core emphasis on the economy – inflation, jobs, wages, debt, the Fed, manufacturing and trade, regional trends, and how it affects the daily lives of Americans across the country.”
Her arrival at NBC has been anticipated since July, when she formally exited CNN.
Romans had been co-anchor of “Early Start,” the CNN early-morning program since January of 2014, but also covered a bevy of significant business-news developments during her time at the Warner Bros. Discovery cable-news outlet.
She is the latest in a small parade of CNN journalists and producers to join NBC News during a period of instability at the former organization under the aegis of its corporate parent. CNN has been through an array of executive management structures as well as layoffs, and recently launched a new streaming hub that is part of the large Max services after shuttering a stand-alone property known as CNN+.
Romans started her career as a print journalist, reporting for The Des Moines Register, Knight-Ridder Financial News and Reuters. She is a graduate of Iowa State University and currently resides in New Jersey with her husband and three sons.
