Grimes is getting dragged for supporting Lizzo.
The “Go” singer tweeted her support for Lizzo, days after the “Truth Hurts” artist was accused of sexual harassment in a lawsuit filed by three of her former dancers.
“I love Lizzo. Not saying I don’t believe ppl when bad things happen, but I had dancers mistreated on my watch in ways I didn’t find out about until way later. Mebe [sic] s—t is bad,” Grimes, 35, posted on Twitter Sunday.
“But loyalty matters to me,” she continued.
“Lizzo was kind to me and others for a decade before she was ‘cool,’ and she checked in [on] me when no one cared.”
“I’ve only ever seen exemplary behavior from her, especially when everyone was hating on me and she was on top of the world. There was no reason for her to check in, besides to be a good person. Just my two cents.”
Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, doubled down on her stance in second tweet.
“Lizzo was nice to me before elon when she blew up and I was still indie as f—k,” she added. “She was nice to me in like 2012 before anyone cared abt [sic] either of us. She checked in while I was cancelled a f while I was pregnant when most people abandoned me because they didn’t want the association, she was kind when was only a liability to her. I respect that hardcore. That’s a good person.”
However, the Canadian musician — who shares two children with billionaire Elon Musk — was met with a barrage of criticism for her comments.
“Grimes it’s because you’re rich and wealthy and have influence, Lizzo is a classist abuser who doesn’t believe people ‘on her level’ deserve respect,” one person wrote.
“lol grimes you’re so over. just because your experience with someone was great (probably due to your relations and fame) it doesn’t mean people didn’t have bad experiences with lizzo. a grimes think piece isn’t gonna sway me away from countless victims who have said otherwise,” another replied.
“Nah she’s toxic,” a third posted.
Amid the backlash, some came to Grimes’ defense.
“Loyalty is so important,” one fan tweeted.
“publicly defending your friends against unsubstantiated rumors when you’re guaranteed rebuking for doing so is brave and loyal. lots of respect,” another user commented.
Last week, the “Good as Hell” singer was hit with the bombshell lawsuit from three of her former dancers, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez.
They claim in the court documents that they were subjected to weight-shaming, sexually denigrating behavior and pressure to participate in disturbing sex shows.
The Grammy winner, 35, has denied the allegations in a statement shared on social media.
“My work ethic, morals and respectfulness have been questioned. My character has been criticized. Usually I choose not to respond to false allegations but these are as unbelievable as they sound and too outrageous to not be addressed,” Lizzo posted on Thursday.
The “about Damn Time” hitmaker said the “sensationalized” claims came from former employees who “already publicly admitted” that their behavior while touring with her had been “inappropriate and unprofessional.”
“I am very open with my sexuality and expressing myself but I cannot accept or allow people to use that openness to make me out to be something I am not,” she continued.
“There is nothing I take more seriously than the respect we deserve as women in the world.”
The “Juice” singer added that she knows what it feels like “to be body shamed on a daily basis and would absolutely never criticize or terminate an employee because of their weight.”
