Former child star Austin Majors died as a result of “fentanyl toxicity,” according to the results of his autopsy obtained Tuesday by Pvnew.
Per the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, the manner of his death was determined to be an “accident,” and his place of death was listed as “residence.”
As we reported, Majors — who gained fame playing Theo Sipowicz on “NYPD Blue” — passed away on Feb. 11 at the age of 27.
At the time, TMZ claimed that his body was discovered at a homeless housing facility in Los Angeles, with sources telling the outlet that they suspected Majors had overdosed on fentanyl.
The late actor’s grieving family described him as “a loving, artistic, brilliant and kind human being” as well as “the kind of son, brother, grandson and nephew that made [them] proud.”
They told TMZ in a statement after his passing, “Austin took great joy and pride in his acting career. He was an active Eagle Scout and graduated salutatorian in high school. He went on to graduate from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts with a passion [for] directing and music producing.”
They added that his younger sister Kali’s “fondest memories with Austin were growing up on set with him, volunteering at events with ‘Kids with a Cause’ and backpacking together.”
“We will miss him deeply forever,” his family concluded.
Majors’ career began when he was just 4 years old after he snagged a starring role on the popular true crime drama show in 1999.
As a result, he ended up winning the 2002 Young Artist Award in the category of Best Performance in a TV Series (Comedy or Drama) — Recurring Young Actor.
His other notable acting credits include “Treasure Planet,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “An Accidental Christmas,” “Volare,” “ER,” “NCIS,” “Desperate Housewives” and “According to Jim.”
