Sofia Vergara has reportedly handed her 10-year-old Chihuahua-Pomeranian mix, Bubbles, over to estranged husband Joe Manganiello without a fight.
“Not in a million years would Joe part ways with his dog Bubbles and Sofía is well aware of this,” a source told the Daily Mail on Tuesday.
“Neither one of them is bitter or out for revenge, and Sofía loves Bubbles and wants her to be happy which is precisely why she’s letting Joe have custody.”
The insider added that the “Modern Family” alum was “gracious” about Manganiello — who filed for divorce from Vergara on July 19 — keeping the pooch after their split.
“[Manganiello] said Sofía has the biggest heart and would never do anything to intentionally hurt him or Bubbles,” the source added.
Under California State law, pets are considered personal property when couples are dividing their assets. However, after a new law was passed in 2019, judges presiding over divorces can now take into consideration the best interest of the pet’s well-being and may establish shared custody agreements at their discretion.
Reps for Manganiello and Vergara did not immediately respond to Pvnew’s request for comment.
It appears that the former couple — who shared no children together aside from their furry friend — decided to keep Bubbles out of court.
Though Vergara was the one to adopt Bubbles two years ago, the “Spider-Man” actor has seemingly bonded with the pooch the most.
Manganiello has shared numerous snaps of himself with the elderly Chihuahua via Instagram and Vergara herself has spoken about the bond Bubbles and her former beau shared.
In 2021, Vergara, 51, joked on “The Tonight Show” about how Bubbles chose the “True Blood” alum over her.
“She hates me. She was supposed to be for me. She was supposed to be my dog,” she told host Jimmy Fallon at the time.
“She arrived to the house and I don’t know, she thought she was for Joe and that’s all she wants to do.”
The “America’s Got Talent” host went on to explain how Bubbles had an “obsession” with Manganiello, 46, and would follow the “Magic Mike XXL” star around “harassing him.”
“It’s horrific, she hates me. She’s super mean to me. She bites me! She’s not that cute in person,” she quipped.
Despite Vergara’s difficult relationship with the dog, she gushed over her former partner’s love for the Chihuahua.
“I have to say, he treats her like she’s a little daughter he has. But she insists on, you know, behaving like a concubine or like a mistress or something,” she joked.
“She sleeps with him. She gets angry when I walk in the room. It’s a whole thing now in the house.”
Vergara and Manganiello announced they were separating on July 17 after seven years of marriage.
Aside from the custody of Bubbles, it appears as if most of their divorce is going to follow the prenuptial agreement the two signed prior to tying the knot.
Both parties agreed to have spousal support following their divorce to be determined by their prenup, the details of which are not available to the public.
However, Vergara did note in her legal documents, obtained by Pvnew, that “miscellaneous jewelry, artwork and other personal effects,” which includes any earnings she made before, during and after their date of separation, belong to her.
The couple’s communal property will also be divided in a way that adheres to their prenup, and the estranged couple has agreed to pay their own attorney’s fees.
