Dakota Johnson Says TV Creator Slammed Her as ‘Pretentious’ for Shaking Hands in the Audition Room, As if ‘I Wasted Their Time’

Dakota Johnson was asked by MTV during a video interview on her “Madame Web” press tour to reveal her “most traumatic audition story.” She didn’t need a lot of time to pick one and revealed that a television creator once slammed her as “pretentious” simply because she introduced herself to the crew that was in the audition room. Johnson did not name the creator, nor did she reveal what show she had gone in to audition for at the time.

“I got told by a creator of a show…the feedback was that I was pretentious because I shook everyone’s hand in the [audition] room,” Johnson said. “I was like, ‘What?’ [Like] I wasted their time because I was like, ‘Hey, I am Dakota,’ and introduced myself and shook everyone’s hands.”

Johnson then joked about that creator: “Oh, I’ve ruined his life.”

While Johnson is best known for her film work, from the “Fifty Shades” trilogy to “Suspiria” and “The Lost Daughter,” she’s appeared on a few television series. Johnson headlined the short-lived Fox sitcom “Ben and Kate,” which only lasted one season, and she had a guest role as a new accountant in the series finale of “The Office.”

“That was honestly the worst time of my life,” Johnson recently quipped to Seth Meyers on “The Late Show” about her “Office” guest role. “They were like, ‘Do you want to be in the series finale?’ And I was like, ‘Of course,’ thinking that I’d show up for like half a day. I was there for two weeks. And I’m barely in the fucking show.”

Asked by Meyers if it was sad being on the set for the last episode, Johnson answered: “There were weird dynamics that had been going on for the last 10 years. Some people didn’t speak to each other. And I’m coming in like ‘So excited to be here!’ No one wanted to talk to me. No one gave a fuck…I was like in the background of all of these scenes, faxing things.”

Johnson is now back on the big screen in the Sony comic book tentpole “Madame Web,” which is playing in theaters nationwide. Watch her full MTV video interview in the post below.
