It’s safe to say Deidre Hall won’t be attending any of Jo Koy’s upcoming comedy gigs.
The “Days of Our Lives” stalwart, who played Dr. Marlena Evans for over 45 years on the long-running soap, slammed the standup comic as he was hosting the 2024 Golden Globes in Los Angeles Sunday night.
“The Globes Globes host, jo koy, is a complete embarrassment to himself and the Academy,” Hall, 76, wrote in a heated Facebook post. “Skip it.”
The celebration marked the first time Koy, 52, had hosted the star-studded night – and it seems like Hall wasn’t the only celebrity unimpressed with his performance.
During his opening monologue, Koy teased a number of celebrities seated inside The Beverly Hilton, including Taylor Swift, who attended the fête without boyfriend Travis Kelce.
“The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift,” the comedian quipped.
When the camera panned to the “Bad Blood” singer, she could be seen glaring at the evening’s host as she sipped her champagne.
However, after the show ended, Koy defended his joke, claiming it was all in good fun.
“Aww, man, it was cute. I was just saying it was cute,” Koy told “Entertainment Tonight.” “I was just saying it’s less cutaways, that’s all.”
He was also criticized on social media for joking that “’Oppenheimer’ is based on a 721-page Pulitzer prize-winning book about The Manhattan Project and ‘Barbie’ is on a plastic doll with big boobies.”
“And this is why the film was made,” wrote a critic on X (formerly known as Twitter). “There are still men out there who exist to tear down women and focus on the way they look rather than their accomplishments.”
“Can’t wait for Jo Koy’s apology where he claims it was ‘just a joke’. Disgusting and so unfunny,” another argued, with a third writing, “Jo Koy trying to pass off plain sexism as ‘comedy’, will go down as one of the most embarrassing award show moments ever.”
Koy also defended himself during the live show when one of his jokes instantly bombed.
“I got the gig 10 days ago! You want a perfect monologue? Yo, shut up. You’re kidding me, right? Slow down. I wrote some of these, and they’re the ones you’re laughing at,” he complained to the star-studded audience.
