Fans are praising Jennifer Lopez for staying composed after an interviewer “rudely” inquired about her marriage to Ben Affleck on Sunday night.
While on the 2024 Golden Globes red carpet in Los Angeles, PvNew reporter Marc Malkin asked the “Let’s Get Loud” hitmaker how she knew that her “last wedding was it” after tying the knot three previous times.
“When they say you know, you know. And other times, when you didn’t know, you also didn’t know,” Lopez, who said “I do” to Affleck in 2022, responded.
“I think you always go in with the best of intentions every single time that you leap into anything,” she added. “I do, anyway. Not just personal life but in my professional life [too].”
Lopez, who stunned in a Barbie-esque pink gown with a rosette cape, co-parents 15-year-old twins, Max and Emme, with ex-husband Marc Anthony, to whom she was married from 2004 to 2014. She was also married to Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998 and Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003.
Despite the awkwardness from the interviewer’s first question, Malkin continued to press Lopez, asking the “Hustlers” star, 54, what Affleck, 51, thought about her “playing up the wedding aspect” of her life.
“I think he sees me as an artist and he knows that I’m going to express myself,” she said in response to the bizarre line of questioning.
“He’s my biggest fan and my biggest supporter, as I am of his. I am so glad to be here tonight because he’s nominated and I’m so proud of him.”
Naturally, fans on social media were quick to label the interaction “embarrassing” and “cringe.”
“This interview was so embarrassing and awkward – if I was J Lo I would have walked away,” one critic wrote via X, formerly known as Twitter.
“I thought this was cringe to watch too. Why would you ask her that? She answered graciously but not cool,” another chimed in.
A third person added, “Seriously inappropriately rude question. He’s lucky she handled it with class.”
Elsewhere on the carpet, the “Selena” actress addressed her husband’s frequent moody facial expressions in public, which have caused fans to speculate on the state of their marriage.
“Ben is doing all right. You don’t need to worry about Ben, let me just tell you,” she told “Entertainment Tonight.” “He is good. He is happy. He is here, he is nominated.”
She noted that even Affleck doesn’t seem to understand why the public is so fascinated by his facade.
“He’s like, ‘I’m chilling. I don’t understand what people are so pressed for,’” Lopez revealed. “’They don’t pick up on my face.’”
The Grammy winner, who was seen packing on the PDA with the “Argo” actor inside the ceremony, was in attendance to support her beau, who was nominated alongside BFF Matt Damon for their movie “Air.”
Unfortunately, “Air” — which Affleck starred in and directed — lost in the category for Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy to “Poor Things.”
