It was the night “Barbie” hung with Randy the punk from “Valley Girl.”
Nicolas Cage – who has been a Hollywood legend nearly since his 1983 breakout role as an LA rocker dude in “Valley Girl” – was seen hanging with the film business’ hottest director, Greta Gerwig, on Friday night.
Cage is nominated for a Golden Globe on Sunday in Los Angeles for his role in “Dream Scenario” — the story of a man who bizarrely pops up in people’s dreams — and when the “Face/Off” icon arrived at W Magazine’s party at the Chateau Marmont Friday night, the real-life scene seemed a bit surreal itself.
Cage entered the hotel’s penthouse and immediately ran into “Barbie” director Gerwig, who is nominated for two Golden Globes.
The unlikely pair laughed and chatted boisterously in the middle of the packed, starry party attended by celebs including Margot Robbie, Emma Stone, Leonardo DiCaprio and model Kaia Gerber, spies said.
The incongruous duo were both recently honored at the SFFILM Awards in San Francisco.
Gerwig attended the W party with her longtime agent, Jeremy Barber of UTA. Other top agents circulating included CAA honchos Bryan Lourd and Kevin Huvane.
Spies told us Gerwig was seen wearing a wedding ring at the W bash, after Pvnew recently revealed she and longtime beau Noah Baumbach secretly tied the knot in New York City.
Also at the W party – which was presided over by the mag’s chic editor-in-chief Sara Moonves and Lynn Hirschberg – Jon Hamm arrived with new wife Anna Osceola. The duo schmoozed on a balcony overlooking the Sunset Strip with a billboard of the Bradley Cooper film “Maestro” below.
“May December” director Todd Haynes was seen at the party with his longtime producer, Christine Vachon. Haynes grooved in a corner of the balcony as DJ Ross One spun tunes, and Haynes’ pal Natasha Lyonne came over to hang with the director.
Attendees also included hotelier André Balazs, “hot priest” Andrew Scott, Colman Domingo, Willem Dafoe, James Marsden, Taraji P. Henson, Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell, fashion designer Christian Louboutin and other VIPs.
Some stars, including Dafoe, later headed to the hotel’s restaurant downstairs to grab a bite, while others headed to Q&As around town for their films as awards season kicks into full swing.
