Sinéad O’Connor expressed the devastating heartbreak she felt over her son Shane’s suicide in her final tweet before she died on Wednesday.

Responding to a tweet by the Inspirational Quotes account asking, “Tell me how your life is going using emojis,” the late Irish musician shared 10 crying faces with the hashtag, “lostmy17yrOldSonToSuicidein2022” last week.

“Been living as undead night creature since,” O’Connor wrote in the emotional tweet on July 17. “He was the love of my life, the lamp of my soul. We were one soul in two halves. He was the only person who ever loved me unconditionally.”

She concuded, “I am lost in the bardo without him.”

The Grammy winner also tweeted a photo with Shane where they were seen smiling and hugging.

O’Connor’s son tragically died at the age of 17 in Dublin in January 2022.

The troubled teenager had escaped suicide watch in an Irish hospital the day before he passed away. He had been hospitalized for two previous attempts.

“The very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God,” O’Connor wrote on Instagram after Shane’s death. “May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby, I love you so much. Please be at peace.”

On Wednesday, O’Connor’s family announced that the “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer died at the age of 56.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad,” her family confirmed in a statement to RTÉ Wednesday.

“Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”

The news of her passing came after she canceled all of her shows in June 2022 for her “health and well-being” following Shane’s suicide.

“We would like to respectfully announce that due to continuing grief over the tragic loss of her beloved son Shane earlier this year, Sinead O’Connor will not be performing live in 2022,” her management team wrote in a statement at the time.

Fans of the artist had expressed concerns for O’Connor’s mental health over the years. She shared a cryptic post about overdosing in 2015 and was reported missing the following year.

But in 2016, she denied that she had attempted suicide, claiming on social media that she was “far too too f–king happy” for that.

She is survived by her three kids: son Jake, 36, daughter Roisin, 27, and son Yeshua, 16.

If you or someone you know is in emotional distress or considering suicide, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
