Prince Harry stopped talking to Dominic West after “The Crown” actor shared stories about the royal’s “two-day bender” — during which he drank booze from a prosthetic leg — at a 2013 press conference.
West had been reflecting on joining the Duke of Sussex on the Walking With the Wounded Antarctic charity excursion and how the group celebrated after reaching the South Pole.
“Two of the Aussie guys stripped naked and ran round the pole but most of us, Harry included, just went on a two-day bender with the Icelandic truck drivers who had brought some lethal home brew with them,” West told the press at the time, according to the Daily Mail.
“There was a lot of liqueur drunk,” West continued, adding that they “all drank champagne” out of the “favorite prosthetic leg” of Duncan Slater, a double amputee who got injured in Afghanistan in 2009.
West also revealed that Harry “told some eye-wateringly rude jokes which for a non-soldier like me was pretty shocking!”
But “The Wire” star, 54, also shared details of Harry, 39, being a “really cool guy” and “very much part of the team.”
“He would often reach the meeting point before the rest of his men and would build these incredibly lavish, castellated latrines, with battlements and loo roll holders,” West revealed at the time.
“It must have taken him 40 minutes at least to build, they were just fabulous. I would often sit on the latrine thinking, ‘This is a royal flush in every way!'” he joked.
West also said that Harry helped him when he was “struggling” with his skis, adding, “He was a great guy.”
Slater corroborated West’s story during the press conference, admitting, “We decided to use my legs as a primitive ice bucket. I don’t know why we did it, but we did!”
Harry, for his part, kept the details of their trip much more PG, telling the press at the time that the trip demonstrated to “those who have suffered life-changing injuries that anything is still possible” and that it was an “unbelievable achievement by everyone behind me.”
This week, West revealed to Times Radio that he and Harry had a falling out after that press conference.
“We sort of [lost touch because] I said too much in a press conference, and so, we didn’t speak after that,” West said on the Dec. 24 episode of “Sunday Morning” on Times Radio, Us Weekly reported.
West, who portrays Harry’s dad King Charles III in Netflix’s “The Crown,” admitted, “I think I was asked what we did. [And] what we did to celebrate when we got there and [I] probably said too much.”
West and Harry stopped being friends “over 10 years ago,” the actor shared, and therefore, he was unable to ask the duke for advice on how to play his father in the show.
West also stopped his 15-year-old son, Senan West, from reprising his Season 5 role as a young Prince William in Season 6 after finding out they’d be covering Princess Diana’s death.
“I didn’t really fancy doing the scene at Balmoral [Castle], telling a boy his mother has died,” Dominic explained, adding that his son did a “great” job playing William the previous season.
“They invited Senan back because he did such a good job, and he was great, but I did slightly balk at that. It was unfair of me because he did want to do it, but I wouldn’t have fancied that, to be honest,” he said.
Harry once confessed he prefers how “The Crown” tells the story of his family over how the press portrays the monarchy. Still, he has reportedly refused to watch the last season, which includes scenes from his mom’s death.
