Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello quickly became one of Hollywood’s hottest couples when they got together in 2014 — and it was all thanks to the actress’ “Modern Family” co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
The longtime lovebirds actually met when Vergara was engaged to someone else, but she quickly called it off and started dating Manganiello within three months.
Just four months after that, the “Magic Mike” star got down on one knee, and the following year, he and the “America’s Got Talent” judge were husband and wife.
Pvnew broke the news of the duo’s divorce in July 2023, more than seven years after they said “I do.”
Below is Vergara and Manganiello’s complete relationship timeline.
May 2014: The ‘Modern’ meet-cute
Vergara and Manganiello first met via Ferguson at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in May 2014 — when Vergara was engaged to Nick Loeb.
Inside the event, photographers caught Manganiello “looking at Sofía Vergara’s butt.”
“When you talk about being manipulated, that’s what I’m talking about,” he later admitted to People. “It’s like a moment of Zen. There is nothing in my brain. If only I could meditate that well. I don’t go after other people’s women. She’s got a guy. If she was single, I would be like, poof!”
Later that month, Vergara broke things off with Loeb following a two-year engagement.
The exes went on to engage in a lengthy court battle over custody of two frozen embryos from their 2013 IVF treatments. Loeb sought to bring them to term, but a judge ultimately ruled in Vergara’s favor.
June 2014: A first date is born
As soon as Vergara announced her single status, Manganiello asked Ferguson for her contact info.
Having known Vergara from “Modern Family” and Manganiello through charity work, Fergunson explained to James Corden in September 2015, “When she broke up with her fiancé at the time, Joe, like, immediately — the moment it was out in the world — called me and was like, ‘I need her number.’
“And then I called Sofía, and I was like, ‘Can I give Joe your number?’ And she was like, ‘Ay, no! Ay, they’re coming out of the woodwork!’ But like, wanting me to give the number. ‘Oh, no, you go ahead, OK, OK.’ And so I did the number exchange, and he took over from there.”
Manganiello, who is more than four years Vergara’s junior, then hopped on a plane and flew to New Orleans to take the Colombia native, who was filming “Hot Pursuit” at the time, on their first date.
“Our first date was her giving me every reason why it would never work out. Like, ‘You’re too young, you’re an actor, you’re this, you’re that,’ and she was just doing it to hear herself say it,” Manganiello told Haute Living in June 2015. “She was trying to talk herself out of going there.”
He later admitted to Jimmy Fallon that he’d even brought her People’s 2014 Hottest Hollywood Bachelor issue with him on the cover to inform her that he was “número uno.”
August 2014: Their romance is official
Vergara confirmed the pair’s romance in August 2014.
“It’s something very new, so we will see what happens,” she told Extra at the time, adding that she was “having a great time” and “trying not to think too much about it.”
By that point, Manganiello had already met her family in Miami. When asked whether her mother approved of the relationship, Vergara replied, “What is there not to approve of?”
December 2014: She says ‘yes’
Manganiello popped the question in December 2014 while on vacation in Hawaii.
“Our first date was in June and then I proposed to her on Christmas Eve; [we dated for] about six months,” the “True Blood” star told Haute Living. “When you know, you know, and we knew right away — like, very quickly.
Manganiello shared that the two were in their hotel room when he “proposed to her on one knee, in Spanish, with the sun going down.”
May 2015: First comes love, then comes a house
Vergara and her Pittsburgh-born beau moved into their first shared home in May 2015.
“We’re moving today to a house, actually,” the brunette bombshell revealed to Ellen DeGeneres at the time, adding that she “left him unpacking [her] things.”
Vergara was admittedly taken aback by the number of books her then-fiancé brought with him.
November 2015: Wedding bells
Vergara and Manganiello tied the knot in Palm Beach, Fla., in November 2015.
Surrounded by 350 guests, including several of their co-stars, the bride said “I do” in a custom Zuhair Murad gown.
They then partied the night away at their super sexy reception, during which the actor recreated his thrusting convenience store routine from “Magic Mike XXL.”
The two left for their honeymoon in Turks and Caicos right away.
December 2015: Their red carpet debut as a couple
The newlyweds walked their first red carpet together as Mr. and Mrs. in December 2015, stepping out for the premiere of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
January 2016: Their first awards show together
Vergara and Manganiello made their awards show debut as a couple at the 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards that January.
April 2018: Manganiello gushes over married life
Two and a half years after walking down the aisle, the “Spider-Man” actor was still “coming to grips with the idea that someone who is not related to you could possibly love you that much,” he gushed to Cigar Aficionado magazine in April 2018.
“Life is hard,” Manganiello added at the time. “Having somebody to help you deal with it is the greatest thing that ever happened.”
July 2019: From spouses to co-stars
Vergara, who is a thyroid cancer survivor, and Manganiello co-starred in their first project together, “Bottom of the 9th,” in July 2019.
In the baseball-themed movie, they play a one-time couple trying to figure out whether they can start over.
May 2020: Vergara brags about quarantining with Manganiello
Unlike many households across the globe, the Vergara-Manganiello one thrived during the COVID-19-induced lockdown.
“We’ve been very good. It’s like we haven’t got under each other’s skins,” she bragged to People in May 2020, claiming at the time that the duo hadn’t “had one fight yet.”
“We can’t complain, actually. … We’ve been lucky that we’ve been able to be comfortable,” she added.
March 2023: The Vanity Fair Oscars Party
In March 2023, the pair put on a united front as they walked the red carpet together at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party.
July 2023: A ‘cold,’ ‘dry’ birthday tribute
Over the years, Vergara and Manganiello have remained consistent with posting sappy social media shout-outs for each other in honor of birthdays and anniversaries alike.
But for the actress’ 51st in July 2023, the actor kept things simple with a blurry throwback picture of the pair and the concise caption, “¡¡¡Feliz Cumpleaños Sofía!!!”
Fans were instantly suspicious of the “dry” tribute, with one suggesting, “Something is off. Cold message for her and has two stories about his dog’s birthday. And Sofía has not even said thank you.”
July 2023: The end
Less than a week after fans questioned Vergara and Manganiello’s marital status, Pvnew exclusively broke the news of their separation.
The couple told us in a statement: “We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”
