It seems like Savannah Guthrie’s daughter was not ready to see her mom embody her favorite singer, Taylor Swift.
On Tuesday’s “Today” show Halloween special, the co-anchor dressed up in one of Swift’s iconic concert costumes complete with a long blond wig, knee-high sparkly boots, red lipstick and — of course — a blinged-out mic.
Guthrie — who was joined by her daughter — even performed her own rendition of “Cruel Summer” on stage with backup dancers and all.
Following the show, she exclusively told Pvnew, “Well, my daughter was a little bit horrified by me, but she loved being up there, and she knows every word to every Taylor song, so she was just so happy to be up there, it was so cute.”
Her son, Charley, also tagged along for the special, but he chose to cheer them on from the sidelines in his Stephen Curry costume.
“They love it, they really do, it’s fun for them,” she said of her kids coming to the NBC show with her.
“Since they were babies they’ve known this whole crew. It’s all Aunt Hoda [Kotb] and Uncle Willie [Geist] and Aunt Jenna [Bush Hager] like they’ve all grown up with them, so it’s like coming home for them.”
While Guthrie got the honor of dressing up as one of the most famous singers in the world right now, she did admit she was slightly hesitant to where one of Swift’s most iconic looks: a bedazzled bodysuit with tights.
“I’m just so lucky. I was dying to be Taylor Swift! When I saw that they wanted me to wear this particular bathing suit, then I got scared, so I kinda waffled for a few weeks like, ‘I can’t, I can’t!'” Guthrie recalled.
Luckily, she and her “Today” team were able to come to a “compromise” when they allowed her to wear a dark green floor-length robe over it for part of the segment.
“I tried my best. You just have to fake it ’til you make it, even if you’re scared to death,” she explained.
The self-proclaimed Swiftie — who shares Vale, 9, and Charley, 6, with husband Michael Feldman — joined ten of her fellow co-anchors as they celebrated their annual Halloween show.
To honor their fellow New York City NBC talk show host Kelly Clarkson on what they deemed “Kellyoke,” they dressed up as other iconic singers.
Fellow “Today” show personality Dylan Dreyer also spoke about her child’s reaction to her costume, since she also wore a pink sparkly bodysuit to transform into P!nk.
“I showed my oldest [child] a picture of my costume, and he’s like, ‘Mommy, you’re not wearing pants?’ And I’m like, ‘Well I have stockings on!'” she told us.
Her eldest son, Calvin, also asked her about the snake tattoo she temporarily got on her leg to complete her costume of the “So What” singer.
“Like this whole thing blew his mind. [He’s like], ‘where’s my mommy? Where’d she go?'” Dreyer recalled while laughing.
Meanwhile, “Sunday Today” host Willie Geist wore a striped neon green spandex suit to resemble Harry Styles.
His teenage kids had not seen the look prior to Geist going on air, but he joked that there’s “nothing like seeing your dad in spandex.”
Luckily for “Today 3rd Hour” co-host Craig Melvin, his two children were “mesmerized by the transformation” of “lame dad” into legendary rapper MC Hammer.
Other “Today” show personalities who went all out for the Halloween bash included: Bush Hager and Kotb as Sonny Bono and Cher, respectively; Al Roker as Lionel Richie; Sheinelle Jones as Diana Ross; Carson Daly as Neil Diamond; and Laura Jarrett and Peter Alexander as Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton, respectively.
“Everyone pours their hearts into it and also everyone really throws themself into it, they commit and even if you’re shy or you’re secretly a little embarrassed, you go for it, and it’s just become so big,” Guthrie said of the festivities.
“It’s just fun to see all of us come out of our shells and in a tough world, it’s nice to have a smile and a laugh and some fun for a morning.”
The “Today” show airs live from Monday to Sunday at 7 a.m. ET on NBC.
