Meghan McCain wants to give Jonah Hill the “benefit of the doubt.”
After the actor’s ex Sarah Brady shared screenshots of their texts, claiming the 39-year-old is “emotionally abusive” and a “narcissistic misogynist,” McCain expressed her doubts in a Daily Mail column Monday.
“I don’t think Hill sounds anything like the monster his ex portrays him to be,” the former “View” co-host wrote.
She specifically addressed messages from Hill demanding Brady, 26, refrain from “surfing with men” and “post[ing] sexual pictures” during their relationship, which lasted from 2021 to 2022.
“Is it really so wrong for a man to ask his girlfriend to respect his ‘boundaries’?” McCain asked. “We women do the same all the time! … Good for him.
“I don’t condemn men for telling their partners what they want,” she continued. “Women generally encourage the men in their lives to communicate and avoid harboring bitter feelings.”
McCain went on to blast Brady for releasing Hill’s texts in the first place, claiming the athlete is “acting like a martyr” and “threatening” the Oscar nominee.
She labeled Brady’s actions “manipulative” and “unfair.”
“It must be every public person’s nightmare to have their private messages blasted out for the world to read and judge,” McCain wrote.
However, John McCain’s daughter acknowledged that she does not condone all of Hill’s texts, calling the instances where he cursed at Brady to be “intimidating and cruel.”
Brady released the messages on Saturday, explaining via Instagram Stories the following day that she waited to share them until after Hill’s rumored fiancée, Olivia Millar, gave birth to their first child.
“I just hope she would receive some of these screenshots somehow through friends,” she said in a voice memo Sunday. “[I hope she can] make an informed decision of how she wants to care for herself and her baby.”
As social media users pick sides, Bethenny Frankel called Brady and Hill both “a little nuts” in a TikTok video — but did claim that the “You People” star was once a “low-grade d–k” to her on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.”
Hill has yet to publicly address Brady’s claims.
