Ricky Martin and Jwan Yosef were not all each other had, according to a new report.
“Like many couples, Ricky and Jwan had an open relationship for most of their marriage,” a source described as a close friend of Martin claimed to the Daily Mail Friday.
“This worked for them, until it didn’t.”
The “Livin’ La Vida Loca” singer, 51, and the painter, 38, announced Thursday that they were divorcing after six years of marriage.
“Neither of them fell in love with someone else,” the pal clarified. “Sex was something they engaged in together and separate with other partners.”
Reps for Martin weren’t immediately available for comment.
The Latin superstar and Yosef plan to share custody of their 4-year-old daughter, Lucia, and their 3-year-old son, Renn.
Martin also has twin boys, Matteo and Valentino, 14, whom he welcomed before marrying the artist.
“In the end, they decided that it was best for them, their well-being and for their kids if they end it amicably,” the source shared.
The Grammy winner “will likely keep” their home, per the insider, but Yosef “will be taken care of forever and will not have to worry about his finances” thanks to a “tight prenup.”
“Ricky knows the value of [Yosef] being a father in their kids’ lives,” the friend added.
While Martin has not commented on the report, he did tell Vulture in 2018 that he hoped to “normalize” open relationships with his role as Gianni Versace’s longtime boyfriend, Antonio D’Amico, in “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.”
The “María” crooner and Yosef met in 2015 and got engaged in 2016.
They tied the knot in 2017 before welcoming Lucia and Renn in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
In their separation announcement, the former couple admitted they had “considered transforming [their] relationship” before ultimately deciding to part ways “with love, respect and dignity” for their children.
