ID’s “The Curious Case of Natalia Grace” follow-up documentary “Natalia Speaks” has reached 10 million viewers across linear and streaming platforms Max and Discovery+ over the course of seven days, delivering an almost similar ratings performance to that of the original which previously marked ID’s highest-rated telecast in three years, according to a mix of data from Nielsen and Warner Bros. Discovery.
For comparison, “The Curious Case,” which premiered on May 29 on ID and aired the three episodes over the course of three consecutive nights during the 9 p.m. block, delivered an audience of 10.295 million total viewers across platforms. “Natalia Speaks” also ranked as No. 1 series on Max in its premiere week.
Originally scheduled to premiere during the Summer of 2023, the six-part series debuted on Jan. 1 and aired over the course of three nights on. It picks up where the “The Curious Case” left off in May 2023 as Natalia retells her the story of her adoption and the Barnett’s allegations from her perspective, offering a different narrative as to what happened to her behind closed doors. The docuseries also featured an explosive and emotionally charged sit-down between Natalia and adoptive father Michael Barnett, the first time the two had spoken since his trial.
Previously unseen evidence and footage, as well as new theories and testimony from an array of voices — including the retired FBI agents who initially investigated Natalia’s case, genetic experts, the Tippecanoe County Deputy Prosecutor Jackie Starbuck (who prosecuted Michael in his October 2022 trial) — attempt to answer Natalia’s true age. “Natalia Speaks” also showcased her life with her new adoptive family, Bishop Antown and Cynthia Mans.
Hot Snakes Media produced “The Curious Case of Natalia Grace” and “Natalia Speaks” for ID. All episodes are currently available to stream on Max.
