Victor Wembanyama’s security guard will not face any criminal charges for slapping pop superstar Britney Spears, Pvnew can /confirm/i.
A spokesperson for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department told us Friday they concluded their investigation into the alleged battery incident that took place at Catch restaurant in Las Vegas Wednesday night.
“No charges will be filed against the person involved,” a public information officer said.
According to a police report obtained by Pvnew Friday, an officer said the decision was made “due to the fact that [the bodyguard] did not willfully or unlawfully use any force or violence upon Britney and probable cause did not exist, an arrest was not made and a citation was not given.”
A rep for Spears did not immediately return Pvnew’s request for comment.
The Grammy winner, 41, filed a police report for battery after she was smacked in the face for requesting to take a photo with Wembanyama, a rising 19-year-old NBA star who was signed to the San Antonio Spurs in June.
The security guard was subsequently identified as the team’s security director, Damian Smith.
Pvnew has reached out to the Spurs and Wembanyama’s reps for comment.
Spears took to social media Thursday to share that she felt the incident was “super embarrassing” and that she was owed an apology.
“Traumatic experiences are not new to me and I have had my fair share of them,” the “Toxic” singer wrote in a lengthy note on Instagram and Twitter. “I was not prepared for what happened to me last night.”
Spears said she merely “tapped” Wembanyama to try and meet him — disputing the NBA player’s account that he was allegedly “grabbed” from behind.
“His security then back handed me in the face without looking back, in front of a crowd,” the “Hold Me Closer” singer continued to claim. “Nearly knocking me down and causing my glasses to fall off my face.”
Spears then said that people in the public eye have a responsibility to “set an example and treat all people with respect.”
“Physical violence is happening too much in this world. Often behind closed doors,” she added. “I stand with all the victims and my heart goes out to all of you!!!”
Spears’ husband, Sam Asghari, who was present for the incident, issued his own statement on social media.
“The blame should fall on the coward who did this, the people who hired him without proper vetting, and a systematic culture of disregard for women within sports and entertainment,” the “Family Business” actor, 29, wrote on his Instagram Story.
“I can’t imagine a scenario where an unarmed female fan showing any kind of excitement or appreciation for a celebrity would cause her to be physically assaulted, much less being hit in the face for tapping someone on the shoulder,” he continued.
Asghari also slammed Smith as an “out-of-control security guard.”
He concluded his post, “The changes will have to come from the top, and I look forward to those changes.”
Smith’s position on the Spurs remains unknown, and it is unclear whether he has been reprimanded.
