Sam Asghari slammed the member of Victor Wembanyama’s security team after he allegedly slapped his wife, Britney Spears, when she tried to get a pic with the NBA star.
Following the incident, which occurred at Catch restaurant in Las Vegas Wednesday night, Asghari took to his Instagram Story to voice his frustrations.
“I am opposed to violence in any form, especially without justification in the defense of yourself or someone else who is unable to defend themselves,” the 29-year-old wrote atop a black screen.
“Self-defense can be unavoidable, but the defense of any woman, especially my wife, is not debatable,” he continued. “I consider my reaction subdued considering what occurred, and I hope the man in question learns a lesson and changes his disregard for women.”
In a second post, Asghari noted that the “violent behavior of an out-of-control security guard should not cast a shadow” on Wembanyama, who was just signed by the Spurs last month.
“The blame should fall on the coward who did this, the people who hired him without proper vetting, and a systematic culture of disregard for women within sports and entertainment.”
He continued, “I can’t imagine a scenario where an unarmed female fan showing any kind of excitement or appreciation for a celebrity would cause her to be physically assaulted, much less being hit in the face for tapping someone on the shoulder.”
The actor concluded the post by saying he “looks forward” to seeing how the organization handles the situation and the “changes” that they hopefully make.
While it’s unclear how Asghari reacted at the moment, Pvnew can confirm that the Grammy winner filed a police report for battery.
According to TMZ, Spears, 41, was smacked in the face by a member of Wembanyama’s security detail after she went up to ask for a photo.
The “Toxic” singer, who reportedly is a big “fan” of the 19-year-old basketball prodigy, allegedly “tapped him on his back, right shoulder” to get his attention before being “backhanded” by the security guard.
Spears, who was out to dinner with her husband and manager Cade Hudson, was hit so hard that her glasses were reportedly knocked off as she fell to the ground.
She quickly made her way back to her table, where the security guard later came to apologize, per TMZ.
“‘You understand how it is when you’re being swarmed by fans,’” he allegedly told the “Gimme More” singer.
Spears accepted his apology and met with Las Vegas Police officers to discuss the alleged incident Thursday morning.
Law enforcement sources told the outlet that it is being handled as a criminal investigation. However, it’s unclear whether criminal charges will be filed against the security guard, whom they identified as Spurs team security director Damian Smith.
