Ricky Martin and Jwan Yosef are divorcing.
The estranged couple announced Thursday that they have called it quits after six years of marriage — but are still committed to the “joint upbringing” of their children.
“For some time, we have considered transforming our relationship, and it is after careful consideration that we have decided to end our marriage with love, respect and dignity for our children — preserving and honoring what we have experienced as a couple all of these wonderful years,” they said in a joint statement shared via Instagram.
“Our greatest desire now is to continue having a healthy family dynamic and a relationship centered on our genuine friendship as we continue the joint upbringing of our children.”
Martin and Yosef concluded their statement, “As always, we thank you for all the love and support we received throughout our marriage. We are united in nurturing this new chapter of our lives.”
The singer, 51, and the painter, 38, share daughter Lucia, 4, and son Renn, 3.
Martin is also the father of 14-year-old twin sons Matteo and Valentino, whom he welcomed prior to marrying Yosef. (People, which broke the divorce news, reported that the Grammy winner will continue raising the teens as a single parent.)
Martin and Yosef met in 2015, with the “Livin’ La Vida Loca” crooner revealing their engagement the following year.
“I was really nervous, and I got on my knees, and I took out the little metal box,” he explained to Ellen DeGeneres in November 2016 of the proposal. “I just had it in a little velvet pouch and instead of saying, ‘Will you marry me?’ I said, ‘I got you something!’ Bad.”
Yosef said yes, and the pair tied the knot in 2017, going on to welcome Lucia and Renn in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
