Dick Van Dyke knows there’s no days off at the gym.
The beloved “Mary Poppins” actor was seen heading to a workout on the eve of his 98th birthday this week.
Photos exclusively obtained by Pvnew show Van Dyke walking beside wife Arlene Silver in Los Angeles Tuesday afternoon. The actor, who shares a birthday with Taylor Swift, turned 98 on Dec. 13.
When asked by a cameraman whether he was getting a final workout in before his big day, he responded, “Tomorrow, that’s right. My God, nobody should be 98 years old.”
The “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” star then smiled as he pointed at Silver, 52.
“I hate going to the gym. She makes me go to the gym,” he quipped.
Van Dyke not only appeared to be in high spirits, but he dressed the part, too, wearing a gray sweater, blue sweat pants and black shoes.
He also carried a small black backpack as he strolled unaided without a cane or a walker.
The Hollywood legend is renowned for his chipper demeanor.
Earlier this year, he was cracking jokes after walking away unscathed from a car wreck.
“I’m fine, just sore all over,” he told paps after his singe vehicle crash.
“The airbags did not deploy so I just had a face plant right in the steering wheel and it just made me a little dumber,” he went on, joking that he was “doing OK” because he was 97 and all of his “friends are dead.”
Although he’s 46 years his wife’s senior, Van Dyke has previously joked that she’s the one keeping up with him.
The makeup artist wed Van Dyke in February 2012, six years after she first caught his eye at the SAG Awards.
“I was in the green room and she passed through, and I was bowled over by her beauty,” the famed actor told RumorFix.
The pair “kind of fell in love” after she began working as his own makeup artist.
He later told Closer in March 2022 that he was worried people would think Silver was a “gold digger.” However, he’s claimed on multiple occasions that their age difference has never been an issue.
Van Dyke was previously married to Margie Willett from 1948 to 1984.
