Al Roker is a grandpa!
The “Today” show weatherman’s daughter Courtney Roker gave birth to her and husband Wesley Laga’s first baby.
The couple welcomed daughter Sky Clara Laga on Monday, July 3, the morning show’s co-anchors announced.
Roker’s colleagues shared that the family “couldn’t be happier” at the healthy and safe arrival.
Courtney, 36, told her Instagram followers in March that she was pregnant.
While Al is the father of two other children — daughter Leila, 24, and son Nicholas, 20 — Courtney’s daughter is his first grandchild.
When the recipe developer debuted her baby bump, Al shared his plans to be called “Pop Pop” by the little one.
“Here we go!!!” he added in a comment at the time. “So very very happy!!!!! You guys.”
His wife, Deborah Roberts, gushed, “This is so very exciting!!!”
Two months later, Al revealed the baby’s sex despite wanting “to be surprised” by the news.
Courtney knew that her dad “didn’t want to know,” but she accidentally spilled the beans in a text message, he explained to Entertainment Tonight in May.
“[Courtney sent] me a sonogram picture and I said, ‘That baby looks just like you,’ and she said, ‘Doesn’t she?’” the Daytime Emmy winner recalled. “And then you see the bubbles.
“[She wrote], ‘I’m so sorry!’” Al continued. “And I went, ‘You had one [job]!’”
Courtney and Lagas got married in June 2021, one year after the couple got engaged amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“Life sometimes takes you in a different direction for a reason,” Courtney wrote via Instagram after the April 2020 proposal. “We should have been in Paris, but with how the world is at the moment, it was placed on hold. Instead, Wes brought Paris to me.”
As for Al and Roberts, 62, the duo have been married since 1995.
The journalist was previously married to Alice Bell from 1984 to 1994. The former couple adopted Courtney in 1987.
